Sabah the type of family I come from- the elders never force -they always educate.yes I was told that Allah would punish those who sin, however I was also told why we must pray ,and why we must thank Allah for all we have.

You cant expect to get the rosy glassed view of anything.Children need to be told all sides of the religion. There is nothing wrong in telling them that Allah punishes those who reject the faith. But you're forgetting, that 99.9% of parents also tell their kids the benefit of prayer and religion. They do say ke "agar nemaz paro ghai toh Jannat main jao ghai."

Those that wish to degrade Islam , or those that are ignorant as to what the religion is all about---they see it as a religion of violence. They only see one side of the picture, and they want to put it down so badly, they wish to never point out what the faith is all about---"peace and submission".

And why is the entire concept of learning religion based on threats and violence, rather than respect and love for God?
This is not true.A very few ,and I mean few people teach religion that way.Faith in Allah is a first step.Active learning is fine, but questioning what has been revealed is completely different.People often wish to question why so and so aspect is in a so and so way.Instead of learning why its that way, how it came about, what it means etc-- they start to contradict it.
