Thinking

A few quick points

1. For your room, get a Vizio. Good picture. Great prices.

2. 1080p is just for future-proofing. There is no visible difference between 720p and 1080p for naked eye. There is no television broadcast in 1080p. There are no plans to have any in the near future either. Conversion to digital will not result in 1080p broadcast. It takes too much bandwidth and not enough visual difference. All HD content is currently on 720p (BTW trust me once you get hooked on HD, you will hate yourself when you have to watch SD).

3. Your only use of 1080p HD (or full HD as they call it), will be if you get a Full HD camcorder (most HD camcorders are 1080p), and then either view it directly, or burn to Blueray discs. But even then, a 720p HD television will give you an amazing picture.

4. In a nutshell, if the price difference is neglible go with 1080p. Else, save the money and invest in upgrading your sound or, if you have taken care of everything else in your life, then conysider donating to Edhi or something.

ps. All above is based on my personal philosophy, that most electronics should be focibly disposed off no later than 3 years. In 3 years time, I will retire my current HDTV and get whatever is new in the world. No need to future-proof for the next decade. Keeps life's choices simple.
