Zia famously changed the recruiting rules for new soldiers and officers to allow for traditional Islamic education to also be considered a minimum requirement for recruitment. This happened a while ago and those soldiers and officers are now rising towards the top through seniority.
With Musharraf resigning and the present army upper echelon reaching retirement in the next decade, will the Pakistani Armed forces become more Islamised when the next generation of generals takes over? Will there be changes in attitude and relationships due to this demographic background change?
If so what will it mean to the army's aims?
