I was thinking seriously on where Pakistan cricket is headed. I raised a few concerns as CT was getting negative response from the rest of the countries and when SA was the first one to decline on the grounds of security. Let's face the fact that the security will probably never change for the better, there will always be a threat involved, smaller or on a large scale. Champions Trophy is shifted (canceled rather) to next year, and what is the guarantee that it will take place? What is the guarantee that Pakistan will be allowed to host World Cup matches in 3 years' time? This situation has really become bizarre and ICC have left a lot of questions unanswered. If the CT is canceled altogether next year, it is going to cause major issues with upcoming World Cup and matches will be relocated from Pakistan. The apparent security issue that was given was meaningless. The passion with which General Dickason (chief security advisor of Australia) refused to see the things in a balanced manner, where was he and his quick one-day stay before the IPL blasts? Where was his patriotism then when the lives of his players was at high risk of being exposed yet no fear was detected in their dressing room and the eager to finish the IPL tournament on a high note was profound? The statement that Australia have been relying on his word for 10 years is nothing but a cover-up.
The decision-makers of PCB, they have tried. They organized and prepared a high-profile ICC security delegates tour, everything was A-to-Z PCB. I would say they did push until they couldn't push longer, and after that, it was all ICC-show. The decision-makers however did push to have a tri-series tournament involving South Africa on their home turf which was also rejected and they had a valid reason to do that, so it is basically no cricket, let alone competitive cricket. This year alone, Pakistan has been more in the headlines on everything off-field, and less in-field.
I really have doubts whether Australia will even think about touring Pakistan for a half-season (what a joke, half tour now, half the following year). We might as well think that all future tours to Pakistan are canceled until World Cup, how is the situation in the country better in one year? It is just sad that we have to look at next year to move from the current position we are in (square one, no cricket) to play Australia (square two). And we will be in square one as long as there is a threat involved.
