Can of pepper spray found near mosque
Sounds like the police and the director of the Mosque where it happened are keeping it quiet till they nail the guys who did it, maybe they think it will help the investigation? (Dr. Tarek Sabagh said "he will not talk about the incident again until the investigation is completed".) Something we need to bear in mind is that there is no evidence of a hate crime YET. It cannot be prosecuted as a hate crime without evidence. So they will need to catch the criminals who did it and then interview them in the hope that they admit they did it out of hate or that they can find some other kind of evidence that it was done out of hate. Otherwise, it will have to be prosecuted only as an assault. Both carry jail terms but hate crimes have a stiffer penalty. Lets keep an eye on this and see what happens when the criminals are caught. I hope they are caught and prosecuted quickly.
