Basically these scholars were from Brelvi School of thought. They not only put fatwas on Iqbal but also on Jauhar, Zafar Ali Khan, on Ibne Saud of Saudia for demolishing the ggraves of sahabas etc etc.maulana Deedar Ali Shah was thier leader at that time.It dosent matter. People who donrt understand the logic and depth they start putting fatwas.Brelvi ulemas were with British Empire while Deobandi were against British Empire so when Jauhar, Zafar and Iqban have written agaginst British Empire, thier imperilaism so this fight started,it happens in history, not a big deal... Iqbal also said something like that
