Alright lets attempt to do this again,

I have a Vista Ultimate installed on my PC. One main partition C:

I wanna install ubuntu, how do i go about installing it w/out it corrupting my vista boot. Last time it ruined my Vista and i had to re-install it. And i never did get either ubuntu or Vista to boot properly. Check this post to see what problem i ran into the last time: Operating system Installation guide

A step by step instruction would be awesome. Also, suggestions on what software to use, if you'll have me make a partition first or use the "shrink" option.
