The world champion took the lead after seven minutes when Leandro Tolini converted the rebound of a penalty corner. After the goal Argentina concentrated more on defending because Pakistan tried to put them early under pressure. By the time Pakistan gained a lot of opportunities but all of them failed. Argentinaīs goalkeeper Federico Bermejillo saved not only the dangerous penalty corners, he also brought Pakistan into desperation with his skills. But 43 seconds before the half time whistle Pakistan equalized. Bermejillo left his goal to reach the ball near the circle line but it passed him and arrived at Abbas Haider who waited at the right post of an empty goal.
