Yes Islam allows a man to marry 4 wives. Let us not get into that argument. But what I've seen is that in our Indo-Pak culture these type of marriages are still uncommon and looked down upon, not as easily accepted by society as much as they are in middle eastern countries. For example, I have a friend from Labanon who thought that when she gets married, if her husband went for a second marriage, she'd be perfectly OK with it because that's how she's been brought up. That possibility has been instilled in her from childhood. It's a natural part of their culture. Often times, there isn't a need but it is done just because it is allowed. But the women there don't really care.
