A 17-year-old boy has died in hospital after being struck by lightning during a game of cricket with friends, a coroner's court has revealed.
Mohammed Junaid Hussain suffered a heart attack and burns after the tree he was sheltering under in Small Heath Park, Birmingham, was hit during a storm on Saturday.
He was first taken to the city's Heartlands Hospital before being transferred to a specialist burns unit at Selly Oak Hospital, where he died on Tuesday.
Birmingham Coroner's Court is hoping to open the inquest into his death later today.
Five other teenagers, all aged between 16 and 17, were also taken to hospital after being struck by lightning in the same incident and are said to be in a stable condition.
It is believed they were playing cricket when they were caught in torrential storms and decided to shelter under the tree.
