Actually I dont think that's true, most designers so pretty heavy embroidery on chiffon sleeves and if that was the case they wouldnt use chiffon/raw silk. I think the only way (or the slightest chance) the cloth underneath the armpits would start getting ruined is if the designer uses naqshi instead of good quality kora/dabka. Naqshi is around Rs. 6-8/tola and all strings get stuck in fabric and ruin it but still not to an extent that the fabric would come apart. Whereas kora/dabka that is around Rs. 15/tola gets stuck in fabric 96% less.

This dress has very heavy embroidery on chiffon sleeves but no one so far has placed any complaints of sleeves coming apart, used on the sleeves is kora, dabka, sequins, beads, cut pipes, tilla, pearls, swarovskis and add ons.
