Hello,
I've been told there is a McDonalds (and KFC's too) in Mecca close to Masjid Al Haram. Is that true?
If so, are they open during peak seasons, Ramadan and Hajj? I mean, what are the ques like considering the numbers of pilgrims who flock to Mecca at that time? Do you have to que up for ages or is the service fast?
And just for the record, what are the other food outlets (preferbly not the dodgy side street ones) like in Mecca?
thanks...

There are lots and lots of eating place near both Harams. U must not worry on this issue, all u shud do is to plan ur umra or haj.

armughal thank you. I actually saw a movie on Hajj just recently and a fire lit up inside me to go and perform hajj. Want it more for the experience than washing out my sins.

I can have MickyD and KFC everywhere in the world. Inshallah when I'll go to Mecca, I will make sure to taste as much traditional arabic food as possible apart from doing Ibaadat.

They have KFC and Pizza Hut right outside the main gates of the Haram in Mecca. I would advise against it cause it tastes like crap, especially Pizza Hut. Oh, and stay away from the House of Donuts.

Mehnaz, what are the ques like?
I'm just trying to picturise what the peak season is like"Before you visit Mecca it beckons to you, when you leave it behind, it calls to you forever."

dont worry about the ques. just wait till adhan time and make your way to the nearest restaurant. you may have to wait till the owner comes back from his prayers. but hey, you'll be the first one in line.

it can get pretty bad! i mean when umra season is in full swing its hard to find a place to sit and eat, imagine how hard it would be during hajj... as for ques.. if its hajj then it can get pretty bad.. if its umrah, not bad at all, pretty fast service.
MQ: KFC in arabia tastes like feet.. unless u have the zinger... pizza hut is only good if u have it from their main branch in jeddah.. the one in mecca is unusually bad!! actually.. the only good food in mecca is AL-BAIK.. u can have food from this chain anywhere in saudi arabia and its awesome.. tastes the same everywhere.. dont know why other famous chains have such inconsistency with food tastes in diff locations.. :stumped:
if u must eat in mecca.. eat from the non famous places.. have the traditional food.. its wayy better!

When I was in mecca, we found this really nice pathan bhai who got us the best aloo parathas and afghani rotis etc etc.. he also showed us holy sites around mecca. So the best thing is to find a desi bhai * who is familiar with the area.
* (preferably pathan, punjabi and karachite will rip u off, will even threaten to leave you in the middle of no where if you didnt pay them the asked amount)
