Today I went to Walmart with my wife. We were just minding our own business, after the shopping paying for our stuff when this crazy old lady walks up to us and starts screaming at me. I guess this is a good time to mention that my wife was wearing burqa and niqab.

So this crazy old woman starts screaming at me. She says "Why do you force her to dress like that! This is Canada, we have womans' rights here!! If you want her to dress like that then you go back to your country!"

I then proceeded to tell her "I'll mind my own business and you mind your own business." Then she kept telling me to go back to my country. At this point one of the Walmart staff drags her back to her line.

Then she comes back, telling me that I'm a terrorist, and to go back to my country. At this point I just respond to her by saying "Ok, thank you, bye." Everybody else around us looked really embarrassed. She just kept screaming the whole time as we were leaving. I heard her screaming the whole time as we walked out of the store.

Looking back, the best thing to do would have been to ignore her. I feel so dumb that I actually spoke back. She didn't deserve more than a smile from me for her efforts. If I had played it right, this whole incident would have been a good source of comedy.

Anyone else have a story like this to share?

but walmart is a crazy place..everytime im there wiht my hubby (it has happen on two occasions and at 2 different walmarts), we're alwasy approahced by a young paksitani couple. They seem very nice, friendly and outgoing, and then we exchange contact number to keep in touch (whats the harm in making new friends i think?). Anyways, then they keep calling us (well the hubby keeps callling my hubby) and is asking to him to put in some money for some joint business venture....my hubby tells him we are not interested (repeatedly!), but they still dotn get it...and my hubby isnt the one that puts his foots down and says no (he's just too nice to other pple)..so one day the guy says hes going to come to our house and my hubby didnt exactly say no..(lol!)..so anyways, the guys rings our doorbell, and my hubby didnt want to confront him, so we ended up turning off all the lights and pretended we werent home..lol!!!!!....well that guy rang the bell and knocked and waited for a good 10 min....then called my hubbys cell..my hubby is like so sorry....we went out for an emergency....lol.....that was the last time we heard from him....and one of the last times we went to walmart together....hehhe....

I used to work as a receptionist at a jewish place and at one time this big/huge man came upto me (whose aunt was a patient at that place) and said, You are a terrorist. I shot back a fake smile and then he said, I will shoot you. I said OK and kept a smile on my face. He reminded me 911 stuff and how bad we muslims are and then again threatened to shoot me.

After he left, I complained to my supervisor and next thing I know he was not allowed in the building

At a same place (which was crawling with jewish) ppl came and told me that after meeting me their perception and opinions about muslims have changed. The way media was presenting it...we muslims are very different than that and they wished tht everyone could see it.

yah it would have been much better if in front of everyone your wife would have said she is doign this out of her free will and she is not forced to do it and does not feel supressed etc.

i think its a brave act to keep ur cool with that woman, terrible guy........i also wear a niqab.i remember passing a group of pagan guys once with my friend, the guys started shouting" move ur veil we want to see ur beauty"and laughed and joked! i dint pay them any attention and ignored them totally. my friend was fuming but i asked her to ignore them too.....i guess we really have to act with alot of patience at times like this.we have to remember how our prophet pbuh handld similar situations when he was confronted to hatred and abuse from the non believers.

I don't usually pay much attention to people like that. It doesn't generally bother me much. I'm more upset at the way that I reacted, well more so that I reacted at all.

Your story was pretty funny too.

That was the right thing to do.

It's one thing to explain something to someone who is actually willing to listen, but sometimes you run into these morons who just want to scream at you no matter what you say. This was one of those cases. My wife even told me that I should have totally ignored the woman in this case, which I realized shortly after that it would have been the best way to go about it.

One more thing to note about the incident is that the woman herself was also an immigrant.

It was start of US invasion on Iraq.@Shell canada in an interview i was asked "what would u do if a simple answer of yours to a simple question turns in to a political argument?".I was the only musla there for the interview, rest were oriental and white fellas. When he asked me this question...i said to myself.... lets play with them as i am not getting this job anyway.I made him repeat the question 3 times. Then asked him can you replace "politicl argument" with "religious argument" then i might be able to give you a simple answer to youe "simple question".They both looked at eachother..nooded in CIA way and asked me the next question.
They never left the room and walked the candidate to the ground floor, then out of the building...but i was given special treatment by those two guys...not by security

yep, but while that person was not a reasonable person, others may ahve been and for your wife to speak for herself, it may have had a better impact on the ppl standing around. No need for a prolonged argument or discussion, a simple statement noting that she is doing it on her own as a part of her faith and who she is, and walk away..

If next time it ever happens, take ur phone up make a small video & sue her. Believe me, she can even be tried for criminal harrasment over what she did to you.

Really?

Terrible Guy, you are right. If someone just jumps out in a public place and acts extremely rude, it usually gets the other person by surprise and most will just ignore that moron and leave. Hardly anyone will have the presence of mind to start making a video or even threaten to sue that person.

In theory that's not a bad idea, but if you had seen how much that woman was screaming the whole time, I doubt anyone would have even been able to hear my wife's voice.

Thats exactly why I avoid Wal-Mart. I've noticed that every redneck in Canada seems to shop at Wal-Mart. Honestly, whenver I go there, the kind of people I see in the aisles, I never see such white-trash out on the streets.
