Are Pakistani Americans considered a Minority? Race wise?
Seriously What do you guys choose on forms, Asians or Other..and if other and it asks you to specify...then what?
What do you think of this:

I started a thread ahout this a long time ago when I started registering my boys for school. There was no box for "South Asian" which is really what Pakistanis are. So if I remember right, I crossed off "other" and wrote it in. I also checked "caucasian". lol, I bet they're scratching their heads over that one!
But I think going forward, I'll stick to "South Asian" or "Asian" because as a minority, they may get more consideration as far as college entry and job opportunity.

Mamaof3, I was told *not* to check "Asian" because of quotas. Asians are a high population in universities, and they perform well; so by checking that box, your child might be competing against them, rather than the larger population.
I remember reading once that we are "caucasoid." Of course that's never an option. I usually do check Asian or Other. It's confusing.

I put down Asian because some of the forms define what an Asian is and mention Pakistan.
Revisions to the Standards for the Classification of Federal Data on Race and Ethnicity
The "Asian" category will be defined as "A person having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent including, for example, Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Thailand, and Vietnam."
