A teeenager has given a warning of the dangers of body piercing after she was skewered by her belly button stud in a car crash
Jessica Collins, 19, was left fighting for her life when the silver stud in her belly button pushed through her body - ending up just millimetres away from her spine.
Doctors say her injury was like a bullet wound fired from point blank range. Art student Jessica underwent three hours of life-saving surgery to remove the stud.
Her mum Amanda Beadle, 37, said: "The seat-belt pushed her belly stud all the way through her stomach to her spine.
"The surgeons said she would have been fine if she had not had her belly button pierced.
"It was a freak accident and it is a miracle she survived." "She lost a lot of blood - if they hadn't got her to hospital so quickly then she would not have pulled through."
Chris Beadle, Jessica's stepfather, added: "She's only a slight girl to start with, but the lap belt was pulled so tightly that the front part of her waist was pulled up against her spine.
