Who here likes RPGs? That's my favorite genre. I've been playing them since the 8-bit generation, starting with Sega's Phantasy Star. I've been hooked onto the genre ever since. I like both turn based and real time RPGs. My personal favorites are:

Phantasy Star series (minus Phantasy Star Universe. I haven't played anything beyond that. Still hoping to one day get a proper Phantasy Star V).
Skies of Arcadia
Xenogears/Xenosaga series.
Mass Effect series.

I'd buy a console to play them if Skies of Arcadia or Xenosaga were to be exclusive to it. I would have said the same about Phantasy Star a few years ago, but it really doesn't look like they put proper effort into it, especially with PSU.

Other than that, I played a couples of games in the Tales series and Final Fantasy series and most of the RPGs released for the XBox 360.

I'd also like a chance to play a couple of PS3 exclusive RPGs -- Valkyria Chronicles, Final Fantasy XIII Vs, White Knight Chronicles.

Some games I'd like to get are Chrono Trigger DS, Dragon Quest games on the DS (IX, IV and V). IMO right now the best lineup of RPGs is available on the DS and PSP.

TBH mostly new RPG's especially PC ones confuse me
old ones are easy to pick up like e.g golden sun on GBA is an example of simple and awesome RPG title. but PC rpg's are too confusing for me dunno y?
maybe they require alot of time that's y
so i prefer pik gun up and shoot ppl games on PC

RPGs that are on the PC are mostly of the WRPG (Western) variety. WRPGs tend to be more open ended than JRPGs (Japanese), which you find a lot of on platforms like GBA, DS and PS2.

From my experience, I'd say that JRPGs are more story based, where you follow a more linear path. In the case of WRPGs, you have a more open ended quest, where you have a greater amount of control of how your character reacts to different situations and you have more flexibility in the progression of the story. You also get to further customize your character, including their personality.

I've found most recent RPGs to require a considerable time investment to make a playing session meaningful. That's one of the reasons that I still have a huge backlog this generation. I hardly get time to play them meaningfully now. The only XBox 360 RPG I've beaten this generation is Mass Effect.

Blue Dragon is decent so far. The same developer also made Lost Odyssey, which is also quite a good game.

In an MMORPG (Massive multiplayer online rpg), players usually create and customize their own character. Aside from progressing through quests, a lot of time is also used to develop character by acquiring new skills, items, upgrades etc. I haven't played one myself. The closest thing I played to one was PSO on the Dreamcast and Gamecube. Even though we'd get through the story countless times, more time was spent levelling up characters, trying to acquire better weapons, items, armor etc.

In a single player RPG, you pretty much play through the story yourself. I personally wouldn't want to get involved in an MMORPG. I've already played PSO with the subscription online. It took up most of my gaming time. It was a very fun game though, but when you're paying a fee for a single game, you'll want to play it as much as you can to justify paying the fee.

Both Diablo and Dungeon Siege are action RPGs.

Age of Empires is an RTS series, not RPG.

Fable and Lost Chapters are pretty much the same game. Lost Chapters is an expansion for Fable.

fable was a load of crap. molyneux has good ideas (black and white) but the execution is poor.
