The second volley has officially been fired from one of Sony's competitors during its Tokyo Game Show 2009 liveblog with Nintendo officially unveiling the Wii price dropping to $199.99 in the US. The much rumored price drop goes into effect on Sunday, September 27 (that's this Sunday, folks), confirming reports from earlier today from a leaked Best Buy internal memo.

I got an email from toys r us confirming this too. Maybe I'll get one eventually. Even the newly discounted PS3 is looking attractive as well.

I'd buy it mostly for the virtual console. The backward compatibility with the Gamecube is also a very nice feature. They should make a DS player for it, which lets you play DS games on a TV, with the wiimote carrying out the function of the stylus.

GBA games had lower resolution than DS games and they looked fine on a TV. I'm pretty sure the DS is at least as powerful than the N64. I played GBA games on a CRT TV and they looked fine on that. However I don't know how they would look on an HDTV.

i guess so cuz crt's dont have resolutions but HD tv's do
they probably have something like some sorta hardware to make it look good on tv screens.
cuz i remember when i had nokia's n95 8gb one i plugged it into tv and the video (movies) quality wasnt that bad it was pretty watchable.

Damn. Did you get an XBox 360 Elite or Pro? I suppose with a $100 price drop, the fact that you don't get the HD cables with it is not so bad since you can still end up saving about $40. I still haven't found anything on the Wii to really make me want it.
