Cheapest way is to use United Bank Limited's Click and Remit.
I have been using it for about 5 years now.

Since you're in the tri-state... wire transfer to bank account is cheaper than western union, and many desi stores provide the service. However, western union is faster and more reliable.

money gram is way better than western union, the fee is low and currency rates are better than western union and the money gets there instantly. The worst way is wire transfer it takes around 3 days and when the person in pak gets it the bank cuts around $20

how much the UBL service charge per transaction of less than $1000?
Islam cannot accept or agree to a situation which is half-Islam and half-Jahiliyyah ... The mixing and co-existence of the truth and falsehood is impossible.

my cousin recommended ubl, but i used pakremit, they have a really annoying verification process but i guess at least its safe. they charge 500rps for the transaction. Which is not that bad.

the pakremit thing is a lil slow but I think it's better than western union and all ... I still say bank transfer is the worst way to send money. People in my bank always promise the money wont get when the person in pakiland gets it but banks always end up cutting money there plus there's the dollar exchange rate ..
I choose money gram if it's urgent and pakremit if I have some time

we have to look at from the aspect of receiver as well.
although exchange companies or some sites are convenient and cheaper for sender but can be troubling for receiver.
we have our customer sending in the money and sometimes guy to collect from is located in busiest part of the city you cant get parking there you have to use a cab, guy is sometimes hard to locate.
twice i had my car taken by police and had to pay fine for parking in no parking.
although western union may be costly but its really convenient you can get it from most of the bank's branches throughout the city.
havent had any experience with money gram but banks are their agents as well & with them country benefits as well.
disadvantage is their rates are higher and conversion rate is also lower compared to banks.
also there are some companies who deliver cash to the address as well.

if its for a pakistani vendor(and paki vendors love doing fraudia things) only send through paypal, so if something goes wrong u can get a refund.......if this is your first time dealing with the company please follow this advice.
