i am planning to visit pak this december...where can i find the most economical ticket these days?? i would prefer to fly from chicago but i guess NY would work too.
so far the tickets i have seen online are around $1700!!
I don't know where I am going. I don't know what for but I am making progress.

Since none of the western airlines serve Pak anymore due to terrorist threats, the best fare u may get is if u go via Delhi. a fare on Continental Airlines from chicago thru New York to Delhi non stop and back could be had for USD 800 while a round trip to and from Delhi to Lahore can be purchased for less than USD 200
u don't need a visa for india if u r in transit [less than 6 hours]

^ yes, i heard that the fare to india is around $800. have you tried that? i would assume the luggage will have to be checked in again for the flight from new delhi to islamabad (assuming there is a flight which goes to isl). i wonder how much of a hassle is that route going to be..also, how safe would it be for a pakistani to be in new delhi..
has anybody else tried that? do pakistanis do that quite often?

since i am NOT from Pakistan so obviously i haven't done that but i have taken american airlines from toronto to delhi via chicago on American Airlines [AA] they have a non-stop flight to and fro ORD. its a long haul flight...16 hours.
the IATA rules are...if u have been ticketed in north america u are entitled to carry two checked in bags each not weighing more than 50 pounds [used to be 70 lbs] each and a carry-on bad weighing not more than 20 kgs [44 pounds roughly]. AA are pertty liberal on international routes.
there is PIA flight between delhi and lahore but not to ISB.
good luck and check with:
Cheap Flights, Airline Tickets, Hotels, Travel Deals - Search 1000's of Travel Sites at KAYAK
they search almost all the airlines and give u a pretty good choice.
