I have an experience to share with you guys.
Me and my cousin went to UK to visit my father coz he works there.
When I was about to call my mother I realize that the sim provider of my phone cannot be used in other country,I thought that my cousin also have the same problem, but to my surprise, she said that she already unlocked her phone before we went to UK.I got mad at her because she didn't told me about it.So she told me that she find a solution,we just have to search the net for an unlocking phone websites. So we searched the net for that, then we found this website. It really helps me a lot,coz without the website, maybe I could not use my phone in UK when I was there.
If you need more details, just send me a message, maybe I can also help you
Thanks for reading guys!

did she unlock it herself? I doubt it. Plus roaming is pretty expensive if u are planning to use your home country sim in UK. If you can get an unlocked phone, I would suggest get a local UK sim and use that.

My service provider (AT&T) always gives me the unlocking code when I call their customer service and ask them for it, its not such a big deal.
I've done this for my previous 3 phones.... as I wanted to give my old phones to my brother in Pakistan when I upgraded to a new one.
They will also give you the unlocking code if you tell them you're going out of the country and don't want to incur roaming charges and use a local Sim there. They're pretty nice about it, as long as you've paid your bills on time and have been with them a long time.... No biggie.

yeah in the UK most network providers wont give you the unlock code for your phone. easiest thing to do is just visit a small phone shop or market stall (market phone stall most likely will be in the city centre)and they'll do it for you. prices vary, it all depends on your phone model.
The past cannot be changed, the future is still in your power

Well,
Need to know default lock-code type in your phone *#06# you can see the code write down change the sim and phone will ask you code enter that code.
Most of the phone's have this same procedure I have Motorolla V2 and LG phone both work this way and I have T-Mobile USA I don't know about others but shouldn't be diffrent I guess!
