Big Brother Concept

So please give me your opinions on how much an elder sibling should be taught/prepared about arrival of a new baby sibling?
I try to tell me son that he is a big boy & will soon be a big brother etc. just to prepare him. I think I mentioned that the baby is in my belly...moreso that he can be careful cuz he tries to use my belly as a jumping point thinking its a big cushion. In any case, yesterday someone asked him so S where is the baby? he lifts up his shirt, points to his belly & says "right here, baby right here". I nearly choked on my food. Kids are so damn slick....but yeah then I got a yelling from my amma jaan that I am besharam.....won't go there. She is of the old school and very conservative...so dunno. Advice please!!!!

oh my! kids are really slick these days ...
i can soo imagine wat your amma jaan must have said -
but its true what do you say to your kids? - my BFF told her 2 girls that they were gna have another sibling, the jumping on the tummy happens often at her place too so shes tried and explained that it'll hurt mommy and the new baby so they have to be careful and its working til now - they come and kiss her belly to make up for those jumping acts and say sorry to the belly tooo - totally adorable!Posted Aug 24th, 2009 at 03:46 PM by mysti

Im actually old school bout this too. Say u tell the kid baby is in your belly. Now if the kid is sharp, it will ask how the baby got there? So i wont evengive the kid a chance. When the baby comes, just go ahead and intro the baby to the sibling, dont think a kid needs to prepare for a baby. Man i was 9.5 yrs oldwhen my kid sis was born. I had no idea mom was preg and just accepted the baby like i would any other grocery item. Though with a bit more excitementPosted Aug 24th, 2009 at 04:14 PM by khawateen

i think what you did was good. back in the day we weren't as 'chalak' as kids are these days. and i don't mean that in a bad way..just kids are more aware of things now.
nothing wrong with telling your older children that there's a sibling on the way. and you're son is still young, so he's not going to ask where it's coming from. he knows that the baby is in mommy's tummy.Posted Aug 24th, 2009 at 05:01 PM by smilestar

Thanks guys I feel better.
Khawa: The chance is there that he would ask where it comes from, but I guess a simple answer like "from Allah" would be enough for him. It's difficult to figure out.
I just thought because he thinks mommies new big poofy belly is a cushy jumping spot, he needed to be aware so he doesn't accidentally hurt me, as he is very hyper.Posted Aug 25th, 2009 at 08:42 AM by Afro-Sheen
