Dear Misbah,
Your Mom and I went to your first real parent-teacher conference yesterday. I have to admit that I enjoyed playing with you in the school play ground more so than the meeting. No matter how exciting and rewarding my job ever be, it will never come close to the happiness that comes from spending time with you.
Your teacher said you were off the charts in reading and math and your writing skills were not that far behind either. I knew it already so what really made me proud was when she told us that you are kind and helpful to your peers. Because I firmly believe that having an off the chart character is much better than being off the chart student.
You are very smart, the sparkle in your eyes says it all but I pray that Allah blesses you with wisdom because without it life is meaningless. I also pray that may your ambitions never over run your compassion for others and that your desires never waver your integrity and may you always stand by the truth, even if it makes you go against me.
I am sorry that between work, school and some other responsibilities I do not make it home to tuck you in bed every night but rest assured that it hurts, every day that I miss doing that. Maybe because I know soon you will be too old for that. And no matter how tiring or frustrating my day may be, when I come home to your innocent smile, blocking my way for a big hug at the top of the stairs, all is forgotten.
Love you always,
-Baba Jani
