Had an interesting discussion with my nephew a little while ago. Yes, the nephew who studies in Karachi and came here for some research internship. MashAllah he scored 99% or something in his exam for coming to the US. Good for him. But now he claims he owes all his friend a 'treat', which will cost him 10 K rupees. Why? Well, apparently that's a tradition and trend among his circle of friends. He went on to explain how his friends spend up to 60 K on just regular birthday parties and give thousand...

From my recent trip to New York. Can you spot the rat? Yes, it's at Laguardia. The place is infested, actually the whole coast is.
A few weeks ago our company had a site wide 'Big Wheel Race'. The idea is that you have to build your own big wheel and then race it. Our team came up with this:
It is made up of plumbing pipes. We didn't win. Here is Phil, one of our drivers, sitting on it. None the...

Beach volleyball season ended today as we lost our second elimination round match. Bicycling is winding down and so is hiking as I don't have the time but field hockey season starts next week. It's always a challenge to do all the running, and warm up drills and then scrimmage right before aftaar but thats one of the lessons of Ramadan, right? Hiking will be replaced with snowboarding and snow shoeing, inshAllah.
This year has been better as far as injuries are concerned. My back has...

Mom is doing better. She is back home. Her CT scan came out good, so it was a relief. There are blood tests that they are still running. Thanks for all your prayers and support.
I wanted to take the afternoon off and go down to Invesco field but then I am not that big of a fan of the democratic party. I remember whenever the election would come around in Pakistan, which was often rare, my parents would do what they do best, pray. Pray that who ever comes to power is good for Pakistan,...

... had a stroke this past Friday in England. She collapsed and her right side wasn't responding. Ambulance was called and she was rushed to ER.
Allah ka shukar, that she is 90% recovered. At least that's what I hear from my Dad and sister. Though they don't explain what the 10% is that she haven't recovered from. Within the first 24 hours, her right side starting responding and yesterday she was able to even walk, using a walker.

McCain was asked how many houses he owns and he didn't know exactly. No wonder he think $5 million a year is someone who can be considered rich. Look out UN, you are about to see a new poverty line. But to be fair, lets blame it on his old age. Sometime I also forget where have I parked my 100,000 cents car. Wait, that is a great idea for a bumper sticker! "My car is worth a 100,000 cents" I am a genius!!
Speaking of ideas, I think it will be cool to have a website www.whatisinside.com...

I always wondered why some old folks listen to age old music and they have this look of amusement listening to it while all I hear is whining without much rhythm. But now I understand, it's not the music it's the times that it reminds them off. Adolescent, carefree, less complicated etc.
Times when wants, needs, desires even though unattainable were still much more well defined.

This past weekend I took Misbah out for shoe shopping as she needed some closed toe shoes. I gave her a choice of the different stores and she picked Kohl's. She likes it there because they usually have a lot of glittery shoes. All the way to the store I had to hear her talk about what she wants and what she doesn't want. I wasn't paying attention and that was my first mistake.
Well, we entered the store and she started dragging me to the shoe section. I asked her if she would let...
