Aftar / Dinner: @ Olive Garden. Bad idea. Ate way WAY too much. The bill said it all.
Sehr: Grapes + water
The weekend will be spent running between two place, home and lab. We have an aftari planned at our house tomorrow night and then we have to go to someone else's on Sunday. I am way behind on a lab that is due next Tuesday. Other than that I better start getting ready, meaning buying gifts, for our trip to Seattle + Vancouver for Eid. Misbah is real excited that she...

Aftar / Dinner: A banana, a slice of pizza, chai + cup cake.
Sehr: a serving of soup + slice of left over bread (from Misbah), a bowl of cereal with banana.
The parent-teacher meet/greet thing at Misbah's school went well. I am impressed at how much effort they put into their KG curriculum. Though I was concerned that they were still on recognizing and writing letters & numbers but Misbah is well into reading, spelling and in Math she is learning multiplication at...

I was going through the Pakistan pictures from my trip in 2007/8 and came across this one. I don't know if I have posted this before or not but I like it. I want to believe that if I was living in Pakistan, I would be dressed like this every day.
Hopefully I can make another trip by the end of this year.

Aftari / Dinner: a peach, a roti with leftover bhindi, 2 chicken strips and later chai.
Sehr: Cereal and apple, chai n cake
I used to believe that we are all born equal in our spiritual abilities. Because it is so obvious that physical abilities are not equal and are all over the spectrum, so it would seem fair to at least have the equal spiritual abilities. But after much reflection I have changed my mind on it. I believe we are not all born with equal amount of spiritual...

Aftar/Dinner: a peach, a roti with red lobiya, cake + icecream
Sehr: cereal + banana, tomato soup
Did you know about this? And here I thought we were better than them French. I am far more concerned that my kid is being exposed to materialism and the concept of "have your life your way" (than God's way) than I am concerned for her being exposed to a religion false in my judgment.
Anyhoo, I have figured it out that if I whisper loud enough to myself...

Aftar / Dinner: Gatorade, two bowls of honey dew, two slices of turkey breast, cake with ice cream.
Sehr: egg n cheese sandwich, small banana with cereal n milk, chai + cake.
So my co-workers did rather well. They complained about a cravings, dry mouth and lack of concentration but other than that it was all good. A, who is a Catholic, actually kept two fasts in a row. I am impressed. Hard to believe but they did try to curb their bad habits of cursing and stuff. I will...

Aftar/Dinner: A chicken strip with chutney, a peach, a banana, chai + home made chocolate cake
Sehr: Egg n cheese sandwich, a banana, chai and cake again.
I was a little mad, more confused and a lot anxious with knots in my tummy last night. I don't like not having control over myself like that. A Pakistani man I know was arrested yesterday on charges of second degree kidnapping or a woman walking home. Why would he do such a thing? I know he got a bitter divorce recently,...

Aftar / Dinner: plate of fruit chat (or is it chart?), glass of milk shake, three bite size chicken empanadas, a grilled medium size beef patty, a grilled chicken strip and some fries, a scoop of ice-cream over blue berry bread.
Sehr: A burger, a banana with some cereal, a grilled peach, chai.
So, we had some folks over yesterday for aftar. We did the non-desi thing and went with a grilling theme. It was hard to grill in the drizzle but everything came out ok. And I probably...

6th Aftar/Dinner: Glass of milkshake, a roti with bhindiyaN, a bunch of grapes and chai.
7th Sehr: a bowl of cereal with banana + chai and cookies.
So at work, our small group of 4-5 co-workers is pretty tight nit. Actually I am probably the one guy who doesn't join them and their families for parties, movie night, bowling night etc. But I do go to eat with them for lunch, even if I bring my own lunch. We joke almost about anything. So since Ramadan has started, they...

5th Aftar/Dinner: half of that left over Powerade. a banana, chai + cookies. Oh and a little salsa cos I wanted something salty.
6th Sehri: roti + left over qeema karalay. The karalay were sour then before. chai + cookies.
So I made some minor (more like contact info, spelling etc) changes to my resume from three years old and made it "active" on Monster two days ago. One recruiter and one HR dude contacted me yesterday. One of the jobs looked pretty good but...

4th Aftar/Dinner: A piece of zukini bread (heavy), a banana, a bunch of grapes, a glass of milkshake. Then later a piece of corn casserole, chai + 2 cookies.
5th Sehri: Two roti with scrambled omelette, chai & cookies. (I know I need to cut down on these cookies).
Everyone dies. The fat old senator from Massachusetts, the middle aged Talib terrorist from Waziristan, a homeless woman from Congo or the big rich businessman in his comfortable bed in Japan. You can't...

Monday: Work was crazy. The class I am taking seems to be interesting but I am not too much of a "group project" person. Mainly cos I have weird hours but anyway, hopefully things will work out. The class I have to TA was packed. I am a little scared as my inbox is filling up every time I see it. :-/
Aftar/Dinner: Half a bottle of $0.79 cents powerade. 1 khajoor, 1 peach. half a gallon of water, Chai & cookies.
Tuesday:
Sehri: Chicken & a roti, bowl of...

Rumor has it that some people started Ramadan on Thursday and in Pakistan Ramadan started on Sunday, weird!
Saturday:
Sehri: A bowl of cereal with banana, chai with some cookies.
(1) Changed the front rotors & brake pads on the Honda. (2) Cleaned up the school lab with Sam. (3) Took Misbah to the Peach Festival in the 90+ afternoon heat.
Aftar/dinner: 2 khajoor, 3 tangerines, a big glass of milkshake and lots of water
Sunday:
Sehri: Roti with...

It is Misbah's first day at Kindergarten. I got her on the bus this morning. She was excited as a toddler high on fructose syrup and I was nervous as a paranoid Dad would be. I did follow her bus all the way to school. Made sure her teacher got her off the bus and hung around to watch her mingle with her new friends before finally driving off. I hope she has a good day today cos first impressions last a long time.
Yesterday we went to meet the teacher(s), checked out her classroom,...
