Went to the hair dressers today for a consultation. wanted to get my hair coloured a chestnut brown colour

Hairdresser told me I couldn't, "It wont show up becoz ur hairs black"

So now am thinking about highlights which I'm not to keen on.

walked out of the hairdressers all sad an depressed

I dont get it, my cousins have blond hair, why r they allowed blond hair and I'm not

^ ya isnt that what the standard procedure is if ur hair is very dark and want to go lighter? its probably not very healthy for ur hair though to get it first bleached then dyed, but for those who want to do it, i think thats what always they do!

Well she said she can only leave the bleach in for 50 minutes which wont make much difference, unless I go get it bleached like 3 times I guess

I think I might just go to some Desi salon and get it done there

Yeah you have to have it bleached first but 50 mins seem way toooo long.

What they usually do with my hair which is pretty dark too is put in bleach, sit me under dryer for around 25 mins, wash bleach out and put a toner in. It's the toner that gives my hair the desired shade. Hope this info helps.

CE, gora hairdressers are stupid and darpok when it comes to desi locks! Trust me, all you need to do is bleach your hair (not thrice, once will do the trick!) to strip the black colour, then you can dye to any colour of your choice. I see every desi, from the young teenager to the moti aunty strutting around with blonde/light brown hair... they got it done somehow! Go to a decent asain salon... or worst comes to worst, do it yourself

Please don't bleach all your hair, it will ruin them completely. I have gone through and had horrible experience.
It looks nice for few days and then hair look disasterous.
If you must colour, then just bleach few strands for highlites. Bleach should not stay more then 30 mins. Even 30 mins is a lot, usually 20 mins is all u need.

Bleach will do the trick but it depends what kind of hairs you have and how much effect they take from bleach.
