If somebody told u, u look Foreign would u take it as a compliment and get excited tht u dont actually look desi or think nuthing of it?

I've observed so many desi people getting asked this same question and their response is "ohh thanx, u made my day"........................?

	If they say I look desi i take it as a compliment if they say i look dominican or mexican, i get pissed.

	I usually respond with "oh thanks, you made my day" and take it as a huge compliment when people correctly identify me as a desi... otherwise i get all sorts of guesses... some really strange ones BTW, have you been watching those programmes on Ch4 and BBC about desis and their skin colour complex?

	i get pissed when people ask me where am i from and get surprised that i am a pakistani- I guess they expect some Big beard men or a Hijabi Conservative girl to be pakistani. The most annoying is when they look at you weirdly when you mention yourself as Asian. Because they think Asian's are only chinese. Ignorant people!

Maroush I havent seen tht programme, but on a seperate note did u watch "my family" on C4 today it was hilarious!!

Its strange everyone I knw wants to be anything but 'desi' most of them want the arab/turk look and will dress up like them an all.....If im not wearing desi clothes I always get confused with a french or italian person but I dont dress up like them. To me, just seems like being desi just aint cool

	When I was not hijabi ppl used to ask me whether I am Mexican , dirtiest qoum ever, anyways after hijab ppl think I am Arab but I am proud to be Pakistani and always want to be identified like that.

Reminds me of a story I was told over this past weekend.

I met this girl - her parents are Iraqi - and she was like la, la , la - i'm working and this lady has a holter monitor attached to her chest and she's got this machinery sticking out of her chest. So she says "Well, it looks like there is a bomb strapped to me, I hope no one mistakes me for a terrorist", and this other lady walks by and adds "Or a Moslem!".

The Iraqi girl had to take that woman aside and explain to her that it was not an appropriate comment to make, and this lady is like from the boon docks, and so she just burst out crying, because she didn't realize what a racist comment it was.
