Embarrassment

Unfortunately I cannot fast due to my diabetic condition as I tend to get the hypo condition quite often. Hypo condition is when the sugar levels get low and you have to eat quickly to bring the level up or risk potentially very serious health problems. The other day I was among a gathering where most people were fasting and apart from few people I didn't know the rest. Suddenly I had a low sugar attack and I could not get out of the place fast enough to eat out of sight of these people. As I took some glucose tablets and drank a small can of coke to bring my sugar level up I got some dirty looks from people around me. After a while when I had gathered enough strength, I moved out of the room. It was an embarrassing experience but I kept thinking what could I have done. Moving out of the room was not an option as the hypo set in very fast and I felt really weak.

	Re: Embarrassment Did the people there know you and that you have this condition? Don't mind the dirty looks, they have no right to judge you for any reason. But maybe nxt time u c them u can explain to them that you're diabetic? Waisey if you sugar gets so low so quickly, then why are you fasting in the first place?

	Re: Embarrassment DOnt you carry sweets around with you? You could have slyly slipped one in whist pretending to cough or something :P. Ok but seriously, you should carry sweets around with you if you have attacks like that and get skittles as they dont have geletine in them or fruitella as they are more yummy.

Skittles don;t have gelatin? But they dooo, I read so myself and I haven;t had any since then either

Vaisay if you are going to eat publically then ofcourse there will be some who will give you the look. Not that its any of their business but you know how some people are. Any way if these are people who matter or their opinion about you matters to you then just let them know why.

Sara, I don't fast.
MM, I carry glucose sweets with me and can of coke in my car and when I am in gathering like this I carry a small can of coke on me. This is one of the fastest way to restore your sugar levels before eating a proper sandwich.

FF, yes some people will do that, it is just that I felt so embarrased with so many people looking at me. I did tell a few afterwards as to what the problem was.

Part of it is ignorance on ppls parts, part of it was lack of information about your situation. dunn worry be happy

Fasting, and any other ibadah for that matter, is for Allah:swt: you are not worshipping other people. It is between you and Allah:swt: and He knows. I care less for what other people think or care about because those people also do not know whether or not their prayers are being accepted or even iman in many cases. What matters to Allah:swt: is your intention and your iman and your conviction and your love for Him and His prophet:saw:

You are not obliged to fast anyway according to two places in Surah AL Baqarah. You are Islamically exempted. Anyone who can never fast must not fast and must not feel guilty. Allah:swt: has given an alternative. In the end, everything is done to get the mercy of Allah:swt: on the day of judgement.

I do not remember exactly, check it with a knowledgable Scholar, but I think in your case, if you provide a meal/or equaivalent money to a needy and poor person per fasting day, you will get the same reward as if you would have fasted.

What other big Rehma of Allah:swt: we should look for...

May Allah:swt: bless you immensly and accept every thing from you and remove every bad thing from your life. Aameen

	Re: Embarrassment i have a similar condition but i guess i have ulcer....i suddenly feel hungry n feel so weak that i have no choice other than to eat something... don't worry, ppl who gave u dirty looks didn't know you personally...it doesn't really matter what they thought of you.
