Kuch Yadein, Kuch sapnay, Kuch baatein
1965
Going through old pics I came across this one of mine which brought back some memories. The year was 1965 and just after the 65 war. I was based in Lahore at the time. Having just gone through a war I was all patriotic and wanted to join Pakistan Air Force. A few other friends were also keen so we all sent in our applications. Come the interview day we got to the PAF recruitment centre and were waiting along with all others to be called. While we were waiting a guy appeared and called my name. I thought I am going to be the first guy to be interviewed. He led me to an office where a clerk was sitting. The clerk said so you want to join PAF. I said yes. He said we were just reviewing the applications and I am sorry but you have been rejected. I was disappointed and asked him why I had been rejected. He smiled at me and said normally only Pakistani nationals can join the air force. Slight technical problem. I was like all embarrassed. He smiled and returned my application back to me.

For the record I was Kenyan national and had come to Pakistan in 1961 to study. There ended the dream of joining PAF.

^ There was quite bit of honesty around in those days. Let me tell you of a personal experience. This was towards the end of 1970. I had a theft at my flat and lost quite a few things. I reported it to the local police station. A few months later I came home from college and a policeman was waiting for me. He told me that a few days ago they arrested a thief and during interrogation he admitted to breaking in at my place as well. The police had recovered all the valuables from him and subsequently returned them to me. That would not happen with today's police. Sad

Yes indeed it wont happen today as thesedays people dont get it reported
Because all you will getting is a police squad at your home every day doing further investigation and having Chai Pani at your expense .
I was reading Qudrat Shaab s ShahaabNaama and I literally went speechless when I read that tale of a poor couple who approached him with bag full of Gold and jewellery they found and wanted to submit it in Bait-ul-maal ..
I was wondering how low we have gone now
Thesedays we chop hands and ears of injured people to run off with their jewelleries and it not just happened once or twice..Posted May 10th, 2008 at 10:53 AM by Aliyish

When leaders become corrupt, then, the nation's deeds reflects their leaders and then, they choose the same leaders to run it's fate...
Our nation has this slight problem of having blind faith on anyone coming around as a leader. Fortunately, in the time of Quaid-e-Azam, Liaquat Ali, and the likes, our people got lucky... and then came the type of leader who started to work for "Kursi" ....
When Makkah was conquered, the ayah about "giving back amaana" was revealed and I heard two Jummah back Maulana Ehtram-ul-Haq Thaanvi explaining about what amaanah really is... It is about giving to deserving person - giving the rights what one deserve to be... and then he quoted Mualana Rumi and Iqbal saying that the only single reason a nation get destroyed when it cease to be honest with giving rights to its people what they deserve... are we there yet? I do not know but I am afraid.....
PS: ehsan bhai - atleast you were rejected for a valid reason as per law. aaj kal tau guddu khaataa khulaa hai. I came in this world after the regin of bhutto so I only remember days of Zia -:-)Posted May 10th, 2008 at 11:27 AM by AQ

wow uncle u were good looking
btw other day i was talking to one guppy and he told me that they admitted one heart patient join the airforce (since he had some minister's sifarish), and after the tough training and workouts, he collapsed and died.
so everything happens for a reason....you shouldn't be having any regrets cuz what you have is best for you.Posted May 10th, 2008 at 12:36 PM by zobia
