Accepting money from your Parents.

At work yesterday I served a customer who was accompanied by her elderly parents. She bought a few things and her Mother asked her “who is that jumper for?” “I’m buying it for you mum”, said the daughter.
Whilst I was finalising the transaction, the customer’s Mother pulls out a £10 note and hands it to her daughter. This lady without hesitating or letting her mum down gently took the £10 of her and said “thanking you”, in a rather sarcastic tone (as if she was expecting her mum to give her the money, but was annoyed at how long it took her mum to hand over the cash).
I was really annoyed at the whole episode. Part of our customer service is to be firm, gentle and polite to all customers and for me it’s really hard to do just that when I witness such things. One aspect of the English culture I really dislike is when they port off their parents to a Home and the second, has to be this making an appointment with them to have Sunday dinner and taking money from them. I certainly hope I don’t ever treat my parents and other elders like that.

when i used to work in a shop i used to see alot of this type of behaviour i kind of do feel sorry for these goray parents for not teaching thier children how to respect and care for their elders w2hich of some of them now in their late 80's and are by them selves.
interestingly we had a conversation heating up at work on sunday, one of the girls in my team i think has a very high opinion of her self and the way she treats her parents is like crap from what ive herd from her.
any ways so we had this conversation about looking after your parents in old age and i said that i would keep my parents with me even if i wasnt financially stable no matter what, and she said to me i wouldnt do that with my parents because they dont have respect for me blah blah blah...
So i said to her why should your parents have respect for you? they brought u in this world and they didnt have to keep you love you emotionally financially support you. she said to me well they arent supporting her financially while she is at uni, yes because there is funding out their available to help you with that no?
i asked her what would you do if your future kids do the same to you? and she had no words.
i was upset at hearing such filth about parents, no matter how bad my parents are i would still love them unconditionally.Posted Oct 13th, 2008 at 03:47 PM by P@GL!
