That’s right – I’m talking about my Ph.D. here – Piled, High & Deep describes it well.

Over the last one week, I’ve slept about 2.5/24 hours hours on average… and it’s going to be a crazy three weeks ahead. I’m trying to get my dissertation out the door – it’s high time I do it. My research was done ages ago (1.5 years to be precise), but working full-time, I only got to write two chapters of my dissertation with some drafts and bits for the other chapters.

So today I’m done with two more… which leaves four to go. I’m hoping to finish another in the next two days which will make me feel a little better since I’ll be more than half way through in terms of number of chapters.

Also, my dissertation has gotten mighty bloated – my supervisor calls me too ambitious for my own good and I’ve made my life miserable by taking on more than I needed to simply get out the door. Apparently, I’ve done the work for two Ph.Ds. Everytime I look at other people's dissertations, I can't help but curse myself for this innate quest for meticulousness which borderlines on obsessive perfectionism.

I’ve always tried to be thorough in everything I do but this time I’ve taken it too far. I haven’t had a real vacation since forever and between my work, my research and my dissertation work, my wife has had to bear my busy schedule too. I just hope I can get done with the write-up in the next month inshaAllah and then my defence by the end of this year. InshaAllah… InshaAllah… InshaAllah.

	1-insahallah 2-I be scared of driving if I get 2 hr sleep a day. 3-what is your research topic? 4-I looked at this book at chapters, once you have Time I want you u to look at it too. One of a kind. seems very interesting. But its 900 pages. so I didn't read it.

	^^^ haha, what an apt description by senior NJ....! LC man, i remember the thesis days... and i didn't even do a PhD, so one can only imagine the stress you're under!! Looks like you have a gruelling schedule.... keep persevering and you'll soon reap the rewards; sleep that is. InshaAllah you'll complete it soon, and to perfection. Good luck!

thanks guys... after my experience I feel like I can do a Ph.D. on doing a Ph.D. - errr... I'm being too meta here, so yeah, njgal, your dad says right - I'm Phira Hua Dimagh... my khala calls it purani haddiyoN ka dhaancha. While a dhaancha I'm certainly not (far from it actually), I'm definitely becoming purana by the day. It's been toooo long.

PM, didn't you help me with my data collection? I'm actually researching the adoption and use of virtual communities in various contexts including on the Internet (like GS) as well as in the enterprise in a knowledge management context.

maroush... sleep is a good incentive at this point. My eyes are shutting down as I type this.

	Gina, you know what - that's pretty much the first long haul trip I have planned inshaAllah. I want to visit all my old friends in the Emirates and possibly scout some opportunities while I'm there. Dekho... inshaAllah.
