Cost of new bath :(

I cant beleive it, $20 thousand to re-do a VERY small bathroom!!! omGGGG!!
The contractor was very nice, highly recommended from a person I trust but heck that is SO expensive! He's going to give us an estimate to do just a new tub/enclosure and we'll leave the rest for now. Theres really nothing wrong with the rest, it works, its clean, its just very old. Its so expensive to live here. Most people in this area are doing their baths in marble with jacuzzi tubs and sensory showers so the contractor didnt even know the going prices for the vinyl ensclosure.
ack.
ah well. we need to do it. Hopefully it wont end up breaking our hearts with the price. It will be an adventure thats for sure....we'll be about one week without a shower in the house. We'd have to have them do it in the summer when we go camping.
i better go get out my bleach and toothbrush, my mom is coming up on SUnday!!

Re: Cost of new bath :(
bleach and toothbrush? That sounds too tedious. Get one of those mildew removing sprays they practically melt off all the scum and u can just wash it down. The best one I ever used was a dark blue bottle, x7 or something, if u want i can go look for the name but please put down the toothbrush.Posted Mar 9th, 2007 at 11:30 AM by Femme Fatale

Re: Cost of new bath :(
FF, its a very sad story here. We re-grouted the small tiles in our shower with the wrong stuff. And the ventilation in the bath isnt great. Result is that its a mold factory. I spray after every shower with "shower-to-shower" which prevents buildup but the only thing to do is first wash the walls with hot water and bleach, leave really hot water with bleach in the bottom of the tub and let it steep for a while and then go at the tiny tiles and grout in between with a toothbrush. Its awful. I think its this bad because the bath is very old - from the 1940s and the sub-walls are likely soaked so the moisture is always in there. Thats why we really have to get the walls off, the sub-walls re-done and a smooth-surfaced enclosure installed.Posted Mar 9th, 2007 at 11:43 AM by Mamaof3
