Thank u sara! I['m back

Posted Apr 1st, 2008 at 06:02 PM by Mamaof3

Well i am back here, thx to ms sara who reminded me that this thing exists lol. Its been kind of a sad day, first the whole big day that CNN is dedicating to austism spectrum disorders (which afflicts my eldest and possibly my youngest) and also a report about a 19 yr old mom arrested and jailed for neglect of her 4 year old son because his weight was a mere 10 pounds.

You know, if I had listened to my son's docs without firing them, MY son would also have starved. To death. He thinks, to this day, that eating is BAD. THIS mom brought her 4 year old to the doc on feb 17th, he weighed 12 pounds and he was SENT HOME. **** what kind of asshole doc was THAT? AND nurse who must have seen him? AND he was "in the radar" of social services. I'm sorry to be so on the offense here but this mom is being SO bar-b-que'd and no one is looking at the whole story. I just thank my very lucky stars that I've had the support and the ability to seek and see the specialists that my son has required for this almost secret affliction.

then, CNN is reporting on autism like its this big mystery and they're still talking about vaccines and thimerosol (mercury) even though mercury has been used to preserve vaccines for decades. But autism is increasing at such alarming rates and they are all just scratching their heads....so what about the aging population of mothers??? People USED to have babies in their teens and twenties when eggs were ripe and new. NOW, people (myself included) have babies well into their 30s when eggs are getting ready to rot. A woman is born with all the eggs she will ever produce. Sperms are re-generated so the age of the father is rather irrelevant. I had 2 miscarriages due to bad eggs so I am really pretty sure that this has had quite an effect on my son. Watching all the news and programs on the mystery of autism tends to piss me off because it really seems rather obvious to me....every parent on these shows, every interviewee - they are older parents. So WHY arent they more focusing on how to better handle the aging egg population.

If you don't mind sharing, could you please describe some symptoms that lead you to believe your child may be autistic? Thanks MO3.

That shure can be a lot for you to handle.
I also read the affect of use of certain chemicals and the effect of those in seeing a jump in Autism in certain states here in USA. (Pesticides I think)

Pesticides are so much more regulated today than they were back in the 60's and 70s. I know that you can no longer buy certain pesticides that were routinely in use back then. Anyway, my son met all his milestones till about age 9 mos then he started refusing to eat. COmpletely refusing like it was an axe murderer coming at him. Next indicator was how he was fascinated with fans or anything that spun around and around. Liked to line things up. Give him some trucks or cars to play with and he;d just place them all in a very exact line instead of crashing them into each other. Avoids eye contact. All of those things were indicators.

Thanks for sharing MO3. Wish you all the best. And with such a dedicated mommy as yourself, better treatments and of course with Allah's blessings, I'm sure your children will be just fine. Insha'Allah.

Maybe they don't want to tackle the link between older mothers and autism because women might get offended, that they should ahve to choose between having children ro having careers. I dont know if it's that simple really.

yeah i second sara. it might get so politically incorrect...saying something like well its time you have babies instead of getting educated or following your career.

    ps welcome back

mama do you mind me asking at what age you had your first baby?

Mamaof3, in addition to age, do you think it has anything to do with birth control pills?

I guess I should post some replies here before i move on to a new entry....thank you for the nice responses!

Anyway, the docs are saying that they *think* autism is something that is genetic but triggered by some environmental insult. That makes sense to me. Vaccines? Not sure about that but I guess it could be....even though there are so many more vaccines with so much less thimerosol. This is autism awareness month so I've been reading everything thats been coming out and I think if I had known everything that I know now, I'd follow the vaccination schedule recommended by DAN (defeat autism now). Right now, every baby is vacinnated on the same schedule regardless of weight or health status. My son was extremely small, almost like a preemie so the dosage and frequency surely could have had an impact on him. There is also the fact that I had been on Depo-provera which caused infertility and I needed injectible fertility meds to conceive and then hormones to keep the pregnancy. WAY too much fooling around with mother nature, yeah? I knew from week 10 of the pregnancy that it wouldnt be smooth sailing, I heard everything from Down Syndrome to omphalocele. But all that being said, I SO love my son exactly as he is - I call him my "sunshine boy" and whenever I tell him that, he tells me "well YOURE my sunshine mama!" I am SO very blessed and lucky to have him exactly the way he is.
