Drowned by sally

Every parent does their share of volunteering and fund raising for their childrens school. I myself have spent countless hrs copying, stapling, stacking, cutting and pasting. Did my lunch hall duty, sick room duty, ear and vision screening. You get the picture. Along with all this there is about 2 other fundraisers a year in almost every school. These involve spending money. Imagine 3 kids in different school and bringing home the same items to sell ( schools in same school district do same fund raisers) So every year around holiday time I have had to buy loads of popcorns, or chocolate covered something or the other or some crappy looking candles. All these items cost 10 times more then what they are worth. They are pictured beautifully in the magz and when your order comes in all you can do is cry over spilt milk. You cant even gift it to someone due to embarrassment. The school forces children and parents to spend this money by offering incentives like highest selling class will get a pizza party or popsicle party. Highest selling kid will get free lunch with the principal. And as gullible as the kids are they fall for it and nag parents and as always wanting to please their kids parents go along with this nonsense. In spring there has always been ‘sally foster’ wrapping paper. You can get good quality wrapping paper for any occasion, some reversible some 3-d. Different sizes of gift bags with or without tags. If you sell a certain number then you get a prize from sally. She will give you a gummy throw toy, or a pen or a piece of jewelry or if you are a very good salesman then boy you can even get a chair to sit on while you play your video game. Oh boy! Kids are hooked. Now some kids go door to door around the neighborhood, call family out of town and try and sell to parents of class mate who themselves are coming to your door to make sales. If you are anything like me and mr. weasel then kids do not go door to door period,’ I don’t care what emmas or chris’s parents let them do. I don’t want to be cool like them’. Sally foster has her home away from home in my attic. I have her Christmas wrappers from 6 yrs ago, her spring collection and animal farm collection god knows from when. There is a drawer full of paper bows and curling ribbon in assorted colors. There is a cardboard box full of gift bags for all occasions only because the 2 drawers couldn’t hold anymore. I am drowning with sally.
Yesterday missy needed a gift bag for her friends birthday gift and our collection wasnt good enough. We made a trip to target for something cooler. Kill me now.

I'm impressed by how involved you are in your kids schools, I want to do the same Inshallah. But I probably won't give in to all the fundraising stuff, maybe the occasional chocolate or something. I know what it's like, all the pressure, the contests, the prizes, I went through it myself and my kids will have to learn the same as me that making your parents buy this stuff isn't worth the cool status or winning the lame prizes. I guess it's easier said than done but I hope to stick to my plan. Good luck with everything!Posted Dec 31st, 2008 at 11:58 AM by Meem

^^ Yeah that would have been my second suggestion, to change the color of the text on the left side,
So you can change these setting by going to "blog control panel" and then "customize your blog", I guess. You can find the first option on the left side.
I myself has not changed anything in my blog, so I am not sure I could be of much help to you,

I have been volunteering at my son's school for ages..but i have given up on the fundraising stuff. It was too much headache..but i did buy sally's paper and ribbons myself. My kids can't go door to door..as we are living in rural area..so nothing for miles..so i buy it myself. And even if there were neighbours..kids can't go door to door..thats a no no in my book!Posted Dec 31st, 2008 at 01:44 PM by COCO
