Punctuations or not, that or which anybody. Then or than.....

About 3, 4 times a year I go thro a phase of either wanting to go back to work or take a continuing class or something. I think it is related to the changing season. Its about that time of the year again. Its cold outside and inside I am restless again. As usual I have been scanning the job section in the paper. The continuing Ed. Dept at the local college hasnt changed their class schedule in the past 4/5 yrs. I have an option for being certified as either a paralegal, food inspector or a medical rec. coder. Mr.Weasels reply for the last one was for heavens sakes. I dont see myself as a paralegal or a food inspector. missy heard me complaining and in her infinite wisdom informed me that as long as I dont go for a proofreader cause you write exactly the way you talk mommy- incoherently. One of these days, to the moon Alice. "like," "you know," and "uh," .It is one thing to hear someone like me using such fillers to complete a sentence but quite another thing for language snob/ scholars to see it on paper. I never mastered the proper usage of, that or which, when to use which or is it that? Cant properly punctuate to save my life. I have a tendency to put comma whenever I take a breather between thoughts. If the pc preferences werent set on auto spell check where would I be? I have no problem starting a sentence with but cause honestly thats how I start my sentence while chatting anyways, and it makes complete sense to me. Can I blame my problem on the fact that my last English class was back in the day taught by a teacher who spoke English with a Punjabi accent and spelled like a sailor if sailors knew how to spell. I have come to accept the fact that, essentially, it is better to, like, umh remain silent and be thought a fool, than, you know, oh to actually do some um proof reading and such and basically, ummm, remove all doubt.

If it makes you feel any better Mrs, I cannot spell to save my life. I'm very good at correcting other peoples written grammar, inspite of my own being atrocious! I do have my justifications though (as always) i talk very very quickly and therefor feel the need to type and write very very quickly, my brain cant keep up!
To think that I have 30 childrens education on my head. eeeeeeeeePosted Jan 4th, 2009 at 05:05 PM by Milly
