NaMaKoliyaat . . .
My first American Wedding
America is teaching me a lot. The very basic thing I learned here is KISS. For all the people who are smooch-deprived and wondering if I am talking about a real kiss, well KISS stands for 'Keep It Simple Stupid'. In America and especially in California simpler the better.
Steph and Scott got married. There wedding was a unique chance for me to experience that how simple weddings can be. I been the youngest of all at home, have played important role (Labor role
) in my brother and sister's weddings. And I know how intense it can get both emotionally and physically. It is very easy for us desiz to change a joyous moment into an intense exercise of emotional stress. But I think thats how we roll.
Anyways, so this wedding was at Anderson River Park near Sacramento River. The benches near a gazebo were covered with white cloth with few napkins. The bride was standing at one corner of the park fixing her makeup and she was like 'hi Neumen - dude you look good in short hair'
She complimented me before I could. I told her I better go put that gift there and will see her later.
The groom was fixing the gazebo with ribbons. I was shocked to see him in shorts as I was expecting a more formal dressing. In the meanwhile priest arrived in his cowboy hat. I asked him where the whole ceremony will be and he started looking at the trees. Than he was like ... Ok so we'll have the ceremony between these two oak trees. People from groom's side will site on the right and from bride's side will sit on the left. And I was thinking ... wow that was pretty easy, wondering how big of a issue it is back home when it comes to decide how the stage will look like.
The ceremony was suppose to start at 2 but got delayed by 8 mins as groom was trying to find the place in park to change his clothes. I saw him running towards restrooms, topless with his pants and shirt in one hand and tie in another.
. Even during the vows there were giggling and smiling. After about 15 mins we were done with the whole ceremony and ready to eat. Bride and groom had their first dance. Cut the cake and splatter it on each others face and than smooch and all
Later they went off to change into more casual clothes i.e. short and tshirt and old ladies started dancing in the middle. Oh well they offered me and I couldn't say no (humain tu allah moka da) ... it was fun. They somehow knew all about me and after hugging me they were like 'no no u don't have to tell us, we already heard a lot about u'
... Very nice ladies indeed.
The grome was BBQing for the guests and few of his friends were helping him out. It was already mentioned in the wedding card that its going to be a Potluck. So we had variety of dishes there. Everyone enjoyed a good conversation and a nice feast.
I like the simplicity and casualness of whole event. Everyone was just happy and less bothered about being formal.
These are few images from the event.
