Back again at the grind. Will be seeing family I haven't seen in ages. Not too fond of some of them. Already the woman has a dawat planned and I must attend. My uncle calls us up and has the gall to ask my dad what kind of clothes I wear because the host is conservative and can I please come off the plane wearing a shalwaar kameez? Um. What an idiot.

I'm wearing a shirt that is semi see-through. Just to piss them all off.

Jerks. I'm beginning to wonder if I should have stayed in a hotel instead. I'm going to be at the mercy of my aunt....

We do not tend to listen to elders anymore. If u wear a shalwar kameez whats the prob in that? My Mumaani is not a desi and she always always wore a fully covered dress whenever we (family) or anyone from Pak visited their house or she visited Pak. I never heard her nagging about this dress or why she should change coz we Pakis are conservative. She is pure American, no desi linkage and was not even a born muslim.

It is inappropriate to ask your older brother who you know is Muslim - "what kinds of clothes is she going to wear. They're conservative - can she wear shalwaar kameez". I wouldn't speak to an older sibling like that.

I'm American. I don't wear hijab and i'm not planning on doing it for show at a dinner party. And there is nothing wrong with American clothes - in fact, my American clothes cover my figure better than my shalwar kameezes.

You live in America and you ask your neice to avoid western clothes? To top it off, they didn't tell me their motive was to show me to the sons in these families at the dinner. I was like...I didn't consent to any of this. What BS.
