Let me write something about procrastination and the other day. I actually turned off my computer and went away to do some pending things. Two things that i learned in regards to the topic:

1. If you ask others to help you in something, forget it.
2. The breaking down of tasks was overwhelming...i have the habit of jumping from one thing to another. I need to stop that.

Major thing i want to this year is to learn how to concentrate on reading...grasping the essence....and putting it into practice. Be it personal development or professional development.

I need to pay more attention to the positive side of everything. I need to revisit the thoughts i learned as a child.

I need to laugh and smile more :)

and something that really touched my heart when i was reading a book few days back and the thought keeps coming back to me...i'll share here: " We do not stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing." *sigh*

My parents are coming over on sunday after their hajj, pakistan and india trip. All of a sudden, i feel like making garlands for them to take to airport. Where will i find that white flower...motia i think...to make a garland. Rose bulbs are easier to find.

I am thinking that i should make some chops for them. Pasanday, i have already made. I have tried all sorts of pulao, pilaf, biryanis from many countries. I want to make something for meat lovers in rice, but no sure what to make...something different. I need to dig more cooking books, perhaps. Maybe, i should make mini eclairs.

I have changed the recipe to make it less sugary and less time consuming for the prep work. I took these burfis to a party and they were a big hit.

So, here's the recipe:

Ingredients:

3 cups sweetened flaked coconut
3/4 can condensed milk
few teaspoons of almonds, pistachios and ground cardamom

Method:

Mix all the ingredients and microwave them for 3 minutes. Let the mixture cool down for an hour in the freezer. Cut pieces and serve. You can reduce or increase the amount of condensed milk according to your liking. Enjoy!

Usually every year around boxing day i bought something related to electronics and that was online. But this year I had everything so i decided that i'll buy some clothing. I have previously purchased clothing online from sears. I started browsing different clothing websites and found suzy shiers website to have some nice deals. But i couldn't find my size. So, i decided that this time i'll go from store to store physically and will look for the deals. I went to my closest mall in the morning and didn't see much crowd. I found some good prices but unfortunately i was unable to find my size or the colour i was looking for. Hence, we decided to go to a mall in milton. I bought few things from reitmans. Their pants are on sale for $20. I am talking about petite sizes that are hard to find. Previously, i have purchased the same pants for $30 on sale. I then went to cleo and liked their collection but the sale prices weren't reasonable either. I entered Ricki's afterwards. They had a great sale. I bought two pants which were originally $60 for $20 each. I was able to find a coat that was actually my size and originally it was for $99 and i got that for $29. So, now i was happy :)

Now, it was turn for zaayan to be happy. He wanted to go to chucky cheese so then we went to chucky cheese and all of us played and ate pizza there. We spend few hours there and this was one time when it wasn't crowded at all.

October 27,08

The day started with extremely fog outside. I asked my husband if we could go for shopping again. This time we went to heartland. This time i decided to go to children's place. I have this habit of browsing online sites, forums or flyers before i go for shopping so i know what sales are on and where should i go. Children's Place had a 40% entire store sale going on. I wanted to buy dress clothes for zaayan because he had so many other clothes. I was amazed to see how other ladies had two huge bags of clothes that they picked. For some reason, i hardly get what i am looking for zaayan. I didn't get what i was looking for i picked up a jeans and two full sleeves shirts for him for next year. The jeans after the sale was $11 and the shirts were $2.5 each. I also bought two sweaters for $10 each which were over $20 i think. I was able to find a dress pant and one dress shirt. When i went to the counter i told the girl that i filled an online survey and had a 15% code and i couldn't find it. Actually, when i was leaving home i was unable to find the receipt where i wrote the code. The girl at the counter had that code and give me the 15% discount...so, over all i saved 55%. I was so happy :)

After doing window shopping in many women stores i found two things at costa blanca for $5 each.

Then, my husband wanted a new version of the chess software i bought him years ago. So, we headed towards electronics store and after visiting three stores we couldn't find the software.

We then went for a drive on mississauga road towards belfountain..There were times when our car was deeply covered in the fog patches. I felt like we were moving in the clouds. I wish i could actually walk outside.

Later we went to chapters and took some take-out from biryani king...biryani, qorma, keshmi kabab and some cholay.

October 28,08

This was the day to stay at home and rest, do some cleaning, laundry etc and worry about Monday. Did some grocery shopping and cooked some daal chawal and made banana split for the sweet tooth.

October 29,08

I went to my placement and discovered that most people were away on holidays...even, the other student. I was thinking in the morning to call and tell my supervisor that i am not coming because zaayan had been sick for the past few days. He didn't wanted to wake up in the morning and i had to drag him to the babysitter. At my placement, i discovered that my supervisor had been away for over a week. It was so boring and quiet at my placement. The cubical looked very dark with dim lightening. I didn't had much to do...so, i started reading the books i am given by my supervisor and manager to read and reflect upon. But, for some reason i couldn't focus and was moving from one book to another. I asked my supervisor if i could go at 3:30 pm and she told me that i could just go. I usually go through square one to get to my placement...so, i walked into the mall. OMG, i couldn't believe my eyes. The mall was packed with people. I felt as if everyone had a holiday and i was the only one that went to work.

Now, i have rest of the week off. I am going to do some cooking and baking and will just stay at home. I am not sure if i'll get over the procrastination and will get some pending things done. I guess not.

On tuesday, i went to pameer kabab to take-out some food. Its the new halal afghani place that opened up near my place. I have tried their food twice. Its on Raylawson and Hurontario and started the operation only a month ago. Its across from the court house plaza where they have tim hortons. Its also across from the Royal Bank....and the plaza is called some county court thing. So, far i have tried their chapli kabab, chicken breast kabab, seekh kabab (which they call shami) and beef boti along with naan. Everything was good. I have tried their pulao last time and the rice was khila khila...but since i am not a big fan of raisins i will not get the pulao again. Their firni was soooooooooooooooooo good. They gave that to us last time for free to try. Oh yeah and i tried their bulani this time...Its like aloo paratha...and the box had about 15 pieces of bolani. I like their food. Its not as spicy as pakistani food but you can taste all the herbs and spices used in their dishes. Even kids can eat that food easily. Plus, they are not as crowded as bamiyan kabab from Mississauga. The guy at the counter told me that he used to work at Bamiyan Kabab before so the taste is kind of similar. I hope that this place runs and picks up the business because i don't want it to close down. Almost every halal place except for popeyes that opened up near my place closed down.

Yesterday was my husband's first holiday after months. So, in the afternoon i took a print-out of some tobogganing places and we left. I used to have fun with magic carpets when i was a teenager with my brothers and cousins in chinguacousy park ages ago..Few days back i bought some tobogganing stuff from canadian tire because i wanted zaayan and all of us to have fun together as a family in the snow. Guess what? I didn't checked the weather yesterday and we left. When we reached the first park in mississauga it became very foggy and the rain started. The park had construction railings everywhere and all the people there brought their dogs because of a leash free area in that park. So, we left that park and decided not to go any park because now at that point it was raining cats and dogs and the snow was melting quickly because of the high temperature yesterday. I felt like an ehmaq yesterday because i wore my snow pants that i bought two years and never wore. I was all in the mood to play in snow. Now, we decided to continue the ride...we passed mississauga, went on to oakville and then went to milton and then to my favourite road from derry to rattle snake point and then to milton and brampton again. I love scenic snow clad hilly roads and felt so uplifted.

I sometimes wish that everyday was a holiday and we could just be outdoors *sigh*

Then we stopped at an indian store to get some nimko and then i wanted to get daal makhni from the nearby store for today and then osama got some paneer pakoras. While we were at the indian store...they were giving away vcr cassettes for free. They were discarding some of their collection...so being a desi how could i have resisted something for free...haha. So, we picked up some movies.

We had the plan to actually visit the halal pizza pizza that my sister-in-law told me about...but then all of us wanted to eat chinese...So, i got egg fried rice, veg manchurian pakoras, mangolian chicken, singapore veg noodles, chicken wings and chicken lollipop as a take-out.

Now my fridge is filled with afghani, indian and chinese food...so, i don't have to cook today and can wait how the day unfolds.

Alhumdullilah, i am enjoying my holidays so far. Allah, aap ka bohat shukr hay.

Hope, all of you can get some rest, sleep, some me time, some couch potato time and some fun time outdoors in these holidays. Have fun folks.

In October at the Thanksgiving longweekend, we went to Lake Superior Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada. We stayed in Sault. Ste. Marie which is often called Soo. Its about 7 to 8 hours drive from Toronto.

Lake Superior park is famous for its fall colours and light coloured beaches. I have been there previous 3 years ago and that was in August. But this time I loved it more because of the fall colours that i saw in the park.

I am including some photographs from my trip.

I was away...i did visit orlando in december 2007 and had an eventful summer and fall with my husband's cousin family who were here for a visit. We took them to toronto for a boat and double decker tour. We took them to niagara falls, ottawa, montreal, quebec city, algonquin park, blue mountain, craigleight park, sault ste marie, lake superior park, chapleau and much more. Yet, i feel like i haven't travelled and have this urge to travel. I always want to travel. What's wrong with me? Perhaps, i feel this way because it is the holiday season and people around me are on vacation.

I was searching for something online and stumbled upon gupshup and since i had extra time so i started browsing. I haven't been around for ages. I see new sections have been added and then i see many new nicks around. But then i was glad to see many familiar folks around :)

I have to do a lot of catching up. Congratulations, to all the parents and soon to be parents :) I can't believe that i have been away for so long that some people not only got married but also have a child now. Yet, i feel the same. Nothing has really changed in my life.

I am still a student, with only one child, with the same interests in cooking, and dreams of travelling and hopes of learning new things and exploring different subjects to read on :)

I think, i'll browse gupshup now more frequently whenever i have time on days off. Weekdays are busy with my placement and i get home late and then i have to do household chores and then i don't get the time to use computer. But i'll try to visit whenever i can.

I am not surprised with these stats, because, child poverty is big and is getting bigger and bigger in canada. On top of the list are netherland, denmark and sweden. I do want to read what policies do they have...that we don't have in canada. It's always interesting to compare different models. As far as i can remember, 40% of the people who access foodbanks in GTA are actually children. If i remember correctly campaign 2000 mentions in their stats...that 1 in 2 child in GTA lives in poverty. It's really sad.
