I maintain hello hi and good relationship with highly influential people at respectful positions, as you never know when you might need their help in difficult times. I invite them to parties, gatherings and give them expensive gifts because gifts strengthen relationships. I don't invite less influential people because they don't benefit me and I don't have time for them due to my busy routine. Even if a gate keeper is morally a good person I can't shake hands with his dirty hands, while there is no problem for me to shake hands with an influential person even if his hands are polluted with forbidden drinks and girls, that too in front of my eyes. The sweat of a poor laborer standing next to me in a mosque is intolerable but the stinking smell of open disobedience of Allah (swt) in a five star hotel is alright.
Above all, it would have been better if instead of running around after influential humans (who themselves are dependent) I should have tried to develop good relations with my Allah (swt), because I need Him infinite times in a second. Every bit of my body is in HIS control. He can switch off my eyes any time. Even though I don't send HIM beautiful gifts of good deeds (that doesn't cost money, except for charity that too is returned with interest) HE is always kind enough to forgive me, whenever I don't pay the bill of my eyes, ears and mouth by using them in forbidden places....
