A wok of mine has been in the 'washing up process' for two days. This means filling it with water and then returning to it at a later date when I am feeling more upto the rigours of dish washing. So today when I came home the friend currently staying with me noticed that a slug was hovering at the top of the wok, seemingly drinking the water. There was some dismay, nobody likes seeing slugs much less on household equipment. Nevertheless we decided...
One of my favourite passages from The Brothers Karamazov. The context is of the inquisition. Jesus Christ returns to earth and is performing miracles. The church has him arrested and the grand inquisitor is now confronting Jesus.
The Grand Inquisitor recognizes Jesus, but tells him that he will have to face judgement.. and levies charges against him. This is part of his speech:
"Judge Thyself who was right--Thou or he who questioned Thee then? Remember the first...
I find fervent belief in any idea irritating. when someone speaks to me with the excited glint of a new convert or the conviction of the true believer, i usually am in for a long-drawn battle where I will be the relentless skeptic. To some extent its driven by my skepticism in claims of "proof", but I dont really need to make a point of it.
today it was about 9/11, a friend of mine has converted to the idea of it all being a hoax after watching the movie zeitgeist on youtube....

Just woke up with this.
I am moving into a new place so am told I should do a majlis here. Ammi (i think) tells me she will take care of all the details. When the day comes I am being showed the arrangements. She takes me to the room where the women will be seated. It is as it usually is. On the ground there is white chaddar for women to sit on. I am uneasy with the whole thing though. One strange thing is that usually the way it works is that the molvi sahab's mimbar is in the...
There is a lot I wish I could change. And most of it I cant. There is much that is not ideal. And most of that I dismissed as improbable, given how I saw myself. Each aberration from the correct trajectory of my existence is on my todo list, a list thats just too long to do. I cross off each item I couldnt get to, rephrase and write it back on the list. I know I'll need to rephrase it again, write it there again. Another way. But the list is good, for it gives some basis for my denial. It may be...
There was a career fair going on as I was coming in today. Always a fan of free stuff I went in. I got a nice little haul, lots of pens including one with a little light bulb in it, a highlighter that I have absolutely no need for, two lollypops, a peppermint stick, a box of 'energy tablets' that I ate up immediately, a little globe thing that I intend to use as a ball and more. halfway through my free stuff romp I got a phone call from a friend who just graduated with a masters and is on the job...
Well heres how much personal interest the power that Be takes in my mundane thoughts. I make a little post about how unimportant material possessions are and soon after I find out that our finance department mucked up and I wont be getting money for another 20 days.
Tough love I guess.
Looking at the regional forums quick links, I notice a bit of developer fatigue that I can relate to. You start off designing a product, you're really motivated. You need to think of...
The whole point of wisdom is to apply it on yourself. Not spout off casual, dispassionate cerebral arguments concerning the feelings of others. I reflect on the various crises of my life.. if such everyday situations merit that description.. and think of how awfully I behaved. You think never again, but then at this moment you might be doing 'never again' things with your life. I certainly am.
Been a while. Not much has changed since, and Im not as productive as I'd thought Id be if only I gave up on GS. I guess if you wanna waste time you find other ways.
I introduced my classmate Einstein in a previous post , who frequently sends inane stuff to our alumni mailing list.
Some of the latest ones involved asking if anyone had 'really nice' contacts in british embassy, if people had the lunar and solar eclipse calendars for 2009 (why?), volunteering information...
