Negative motivations for good deeds

Amazing that even in the most pious deeds, the devil's attack on "intentions" might pollute all the efforts. A praying person "prolonging" his prayer with more focus, after realizing the presence of someone who is inspired by his piousness. A bright student asking "intelligent" confusing questions and proudly smiling when the teacher is totally lost and the girls look at him with an "impressed look". After helping out a colleague 'smiling to oneself' that from now on s/he would also help me in difficult times. Even if s/he is not in a position of paying me back, at least s/he would think highly of me and advertise it to others. Some of the most hardworking and intelligent people clearly mention that "only greed for money and popularity" is the driving force behind all this energy for social work. Even some elder doctors advising their students to have a smile and a kind attitude (even fake) to earn more patients. Is it ok if a shop owner smiles like an angel and do a lot of discount with kindness, but is later seen barking at the 13 year old worker in an insulting and heart breaking manner.
Even after writing all this ordinary stuff, if a person feels kind enough to encourage me, the devil might whisper in my ears, " See, people like what you write. So your writings are thought provoking!!. You called your writing ordinary ?!?!, wow!!!, people would now think of you to be very humble!! You accepted the mistakes pointed out by few readers, now they would also consider you down to earth, logical and reasonable !!! You replied to some rude remarks politely, now they would think of you to be a level headed gentleman with good manners..etc...blah blah!!!"
May Allah (swt) help us in purifying our intentions only for the love of Allah (swt), because with an exception of all the Prophets, most parents, and few teachers, no one can claim of pure intentions behind any act.Indeed without the help of Allah (swt) no one can keep his intentions sincere and 100% pure. Love for Incentives and privileges is part of human nature, that is why wishing for the reward of "Allah's happiness with us" and a company of the Prophet (saw) in Jannah (heaven) is a pure greed and the best driving force behind any act.

^ True. But expectations when associated with humans often lead to disappointments and frustrations because humans make infinite mistakes. If we do our part sincerely and expect only from our Lord, HE would give us more than our expectations. How many times in our life people violated our rights but Allah (swt) sent a person out of no where and in the end our problem was solved. It is HIS decision that matters, if HE decides to solve our problem than HE is not dependent on the person whom we expect will solve our problem. HE knows infinite ways to get done what HE wants. If HE hasn't approved it yet, the whole world can't help us.Posted Jun 23rd, 2009 at 08:04 PM by Submission To Peace
