Most successful people act like a glass when facing negativity and false accusations, but behave like a sponge while facing positive and sincere sharing of knowledge.

Acting like Glass: helps in letting the dirty water (accusations and negativity) roll off without disturbing its qualities and capabilities.

Acting like sponge: helps in absorbing pure water (good knowledge and sincere advices) to be preserved and used later.

At times I used to feel my heart to be empty of true happiness. In worldly achievements I used to feel temporary excitement but that would not help in removing that emptiness and I kept falsely deceiving myself till I read this:

"Truly in the heart there is a void that cannot be removed except with the company of Allah. And in it there is a sadness that cannot be removed except with the happiness of knowing Allah and being true to Him. And in it there is an emptiness that cannot...

"Woe unto worshippers who are heedless of their salaah, who want but to be seen at salaat." (Al-maa'un:4-6)

"To be heedless" has following interpretations:

1. To miss time of salaat due to carelessness.
2. To be inattentive in salaat.
3. To forget the number of rakaats.

"When they (the hypocrites) stand up for salaat, they perform it without earnestness and want but to be seen by men and are mindful of Allah but little."...

'Abdullah bin 'Umar (r.a) said,

"Allah's Apostle took hold of my shoulder and said, 'Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler." The sub-narrator added: Ibn 'Umar used to say, "If you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the evening, and take from your health for your sickness, and (take) from your life for your death."

It is easier to pray all night, but difficult to be polite with a rude person, that is why only prophets and true friends of Allah (swt) posses this quality.

A few days ago a scholar mentioned a hadith that the Prophet (saw) held his tongue with his hand and told Hazrat Maa'z (r.a) that he saw most of the people in hell because of wrong use of this part of the body.

Hazrat Luqman told his son. " O' son! never in my life I regretted remaining quiet, whenever I regretted, it was because of talking (wrong use of tongue)"

I heard it from a scholar that Allah (swt) gives us whatever we sincerely pray for, no matter whatever it is. I prayed to Allah (swt) that I always feel asleep while reciting or listening to Quran. Please develop so much interest in my heart that I don't sleep during quran recitation. Alhamdulillah, it worked.
