      shed ur definitional lights please. i am so confused between the 2 titles. i want to pick associate, and my promoting boss wants to give me assistant director.

      I don’t know whether it’s a matter of the job title by itself – but usually, the title is also linked to a job rank… and in terms of rank, an Assistant Director may be a rank below the Associate Director.

      I’m making this inference from how ank titles work in the academic and medical fields where you have Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Full Professors… similarly, you have Assitant Deans, Associate Deans, and Deans and so on.

      I will be associate director at an education dept in a university in NY.
      currently, i am a research associate.

      You made my day, and I really hoped that I you will post the reply as u are in academia as well.
