      Hello GS people.

If someone is on F1 visa in the US, than please share your experiences of getting the visa. How long did it take to actually get the visa. I have heard the administrative processing after you go through the interview can take months. I have also heard that for some it took 11 months before they got their visa stamped.

I know that now they have made it extremely hard to get any US visa. For the F1 visa you have to show strong financial stability (lots of money in bank/ property) unless someone from the U.S is sponsoring you. If you are going through the Islamabad embassy, the administrative processing does take a long time but it depends on how common your name is because they check your name against the FBI list. I am a U.S citizen and I sponsored my hubby who was living in London at the time and they even put him on administrative processing but it only took about 25 days. I know people who have been on it for months and there is nothing you can do but wait. My cousin recently tried to get from London for the U.S (only for 2 weeks) because he had to attend a conference to complete his PhD but they didn't grant him the visa. It's different for everybody. I think that the time from filing to actually recieving the visa has increased a lot in the past few years.
