internship program for highly motivated, responsible, and creative
undergraduate students. Attached is the official info on the

Internship Coordinator
Embassy of Pakistan

Summer 2003 Internship

The Pakistan Embassy is pleased to announce that it will be offering internships to undergraduate students during the summer of 2003.

The Work
The Embassy will work with the interns to match their skills and interests to the Embassy’s needs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Attending sessions of Congress and its Committees on behalf of the Embassy
• Doing research or otherwise working with documents that are issued by the Congressional Research Service and various think tanks
• Promoting Embassy’s interactions with the American-Pakistani community
• Promoting Embassy’s media visibility by writing articles and other pieces for American newspapers
• Helping to inform the Pakistani public on the Embassy’s activities by writing for Pakistani newspapers
• Arranging speaking engagements for Embassy officials in various think tanks and universities
• Assisting in arrangements of cultural events in the Embassy
• Working with a political officer
• Working in the economic and trade sections
• Working in the consular section
• Working on projects designed jointly by the Embassy and the interns, based on personal interest and initiative

The internship varies greatly in structure—it can be fully directed by a staff member, completely based on personal initiative, or a combination of both.

Benefits
Although the internship is unpaid, interns stand to gain valuable, first-hand experience in international relations and Pakistani-American affairs through their work. The recently pioneered internship program has proven the energy and insights of young American-Pakistanis to be very useful. For this reason, embassy provides a very supportive atmosphere for students who want to learn and to effect positive change.

Location
The Intern Office at the Pakistan Embassy in Washington, DC. Although interns are responsible for finding their own room and board, the Embassy will try to assist applicants in finding summer housing.

Qualifications
The Pakistan Embassy has four positions available for highly motivated, creative, and responsible students who can work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

How to Apply
E-mail a resume along with a writing sample to Internship Coordinator Nadia Naviwala at nn28@georgetown.edu. Please attach a cover letter that outlines your skills and interests and explains why you would like to intern with the Pakistan Embassy. Please do not hesitate to direct any questions or concerns to Internship Coordinator.

Deadline
The deadline for receipt of applications is May 8, 2003.

Whats the deal with this PM thingie?!

Munni, if there's something which you think is inappropriate about the embassy, why don't you post it here for everyone to know about. Whats the use of sharing it on PM's and keeping it under the lid?? Let the people make their own judgement about the situation instead of deciding it for them..

I'm not deciding for them. Infact I am going to edit what I wrote. So people can experience for themselves.

Munni,

Maybe you shoudn't have brought up something you weren't willing to share with others. You still haven't explained why you said what you had said...

Ghalib bhai, Munni baji didn't want to share it publicly but she is open to ppl who might be interested in this internship to PM'ing her and asking her about it...if she hadn't posted in the thread ppl who might have visited this thread then wouldn't have known that they could contact her abt it and she had advice abt this issue...Some guppies already contacted her about it on PM and she did share her thoughts with them...

IMHO she should not be expected to talk about something in this thread publicly which she does not want to, its appreciable enough that she is making it known publicly that she might have useful advice for ppl and is willing to share whatever advice she has with those who do contact her individually...

just my two cents as the thread starter...

salams,
irem

there are women who work at the embassu now, and there have been others who have worked there in the past. When i was on the east coast I met embassy ppl off and on.

Now one person could have had an issue with a few chichoras, which can happen at any place really. does not mean that the place is bad for everyone.

Much of people's experience also depends on how they carry themselves and how they interact with others.

Whoever wants to go for it should. there is no initiation ritual for female interns where they have to do gogo dancing for teh embassy staff or someething of the sort
