anyone from UC Berkeley or know anyone there...?

im reeeeeally excited bout going to UCB !!! just got my acceptance letter

i dont know a single soul in northern california (im from L.A. area), so i was hoping may be u guys know ppl there...? or may be some of u might even be going there...? i just want to ask ppl what its like living there? ive heard its an expensive area!

or if u have any other info. like the paki community, masjids, rents, jobs, overall expenses in the area around Berkeley...... just bout any info. will be helpful for starters.
i will be going in as a Biology major so if anyone knowz anything bout the specific departments or faculty ovathere thatll be really nice to know too.... like which professors to take and which not to n stuff....?

congratulations on the acceptance meea! way to go!

I don't particularly know anyone there, but happened to be there for a few days as part of an NSF scholarship program, and I have a couple of contacts in the Comp. Sci. dept. which wouldn't be all that helpful in your situation I suppose.

I just wanted to wish you good luck - its such a remarkably encouraging environment there!

well at the moment any kinda info will be good, esp. if u know any desis there thatll be really helpful...? i will be looking for a room mate prefrbly a desi one , female obviously

what was ur experience with the comp. dept. like ? how long were u there? did u rent a room or what...?

I dunno anyone there but the thing that made me reply to this thread is your idea of having a desi rommie.. take my words and dun plan anything like this...You should be very careful while dealing with roommates and honestly desi mentality won't be good especially if you need privacy sometimes or if you want to have your "own" time in your room.. no offence please..why don't you ask for a Muslim room mate preferably an Arab or a converted Muslimah.. hell alot of advantages as well as you dun have to share each and everything with them. :-)

I have a Muslim rommie from Morocco and a very close circle of desi friends.. pretty happy with it. Alhamdulillah!!

Just my two cents, decision would be yours anyway. :-)

^^ hmm.... now u got me thinking!

i guess u do have a point, desi roomie might not be a good idea.... well i just hope whoever i get is a sane and decent person !! its just that this will be my first time living outside my home and so far away from my family, so im feeling a bit uneasy bout the whole idea of living with a total stranger cuz after all the room mates r randomly assigned rnt they?

im just hoping n praying for the best

Perfect I go to a UC school also. I want to see other people suffer through the hard core classes they offer and their high expectance level

. UC Berkley starts in August they have a semester system and all the other UC's start at the end of September they have a quarter system. I got accepted into UC Berkley but my dad didn't allow me to go, didn't want me leaving home. My best friend she is Indian she attends UC Berkley if you need information I can get it off of her. She lives in a suite though not in an apartment suites are on campus. Most freshmen live in the dorms on campus, but apartments are cheaper dorms and suites are really expensive. Keep your eyes open during orientation their should be other Pakistani girls who would want to roomie.

I am also a Biology major and I am going to tell you right now it's like AP classes X10, but the help is always an easy access, and that makes it easy, easier than high school. You will be surprised there is more free time in university. If you need to know what classes you should be taking during freshmen year for your major pm me.
