I am planning to return back to Pakistan (lahore). I need advice. I have 2+ years of uk work experience in .net, c#, asp.net, sql server (MS technologies). I also have a bsc hons degree in CS (first class) + MCTS.

What am i look for back home in terms of salary? Anyone in the current job market right now, can you please let me know if there is a chance I can get somewhere aroudn 40K +.

Because if I can, then i am taking the next flight home

BTW dont tell me about the policitcal and economic instability, i know about that, i just need to know if with a uk degree and 2 yrs of foriegn experience would land me in a 40K+ job

Thanks guyz!

Well , people at LUMS are even getting 350K+ at start. In government and private universities, 40K is usually accepted even 40K+. In market Netsol and Techlogix etc are market leaders and have a good salary packages.Celular companies also give the same round about salary.

yes i did heard about the massive increase in salaries for certain fields and specifilizations which is why i am hopeful for something decent around 40K.

But if there is anyone who is currently in the IT market in pakistan, I would appreciate if you could leave a message so I could drop a line or two.

Hi Zeshu, If you are in Lahore these days and if you have 2+ yrs of good experience in .Net, you may want to send me a personal message through these forums.

If you are still in UK and just wanted to know about your job prospects in LHR/PK, I can tell you that .Net programming skills are in high demand these days and if you can prove your talent in interviews, you can get a decent job offer around 40k. Depending upon other factors (such as the criticality/urgency at the employer's end and nature of their work) you can get paid much more than 40k but personally I think financials should not be the sole/top deciding factor at this stage of your career.

Amour, if you have hands on (design/development) experience in J2EE, you have good chances of getting a job in any reasonable IT house doing development in J2EE. You should not require any reference. You can apply either unsolicited or against some job posting advertised in any of the online job sites. If your experience is more of a management/consultancy, you may still apply for PM position but a reference will help.

I don't have a first hand experience about banks/telecom but I've heard that for senior level positions, they prefer candidates with references.

There is a good demand for PHP developers but the salary may not be as much as that of a .Net or J2EE resource with comparable experience.

I guess you should be looking at 65k+ (BTW IT salaries mostly depends on how you sell your self)

2 of my relatives (fresh computer graduates from KU working in .NET) are getting 30k at software houses. Another of my relative with around 3 years of experience (again KU graduate) is getting around 75k + Car at a pvt bank (all 3 are in Karachi btw)

Around a year and half ago I was also contemplating my return to Pakistan from US after working for couple of IT consultancies here for around 9 years but now I have postponed that decision and want to get MBA degree before returning.
