AOA,

I am looking for a healthy discussion on the Education system in Pakistan. I am from the UK and I know a few brief details of education in Pakistan, but I would like to know it in more depth as my wife is from Pakistan and also that Education in Pakistan is a matter of life and death also it promotes and individual respect from others so I have learned.

If you have websites or even some teachers here I would be delighted.

- Huge difference between govt schools and private schools.
- The "best" schools (City and Beacon) are made inside houses. Huge issue for people living in those streets.
- Prison style rules and regulations.
- Way too much emphasis on uniforms and discipline (We all know how well that works out).
- Most English medium schools are not actually English medium, only the books are in English but instructions are in Urdu.
- Most good private schools teach from books written for Singaporean or British schools.
- Islamiat is a mandatory subject, but is treated as an orphan and an attitude of "let's get this over with".
- Homework is a big part of life. Homework means 100 problems due tomorrow morning.
- Very little emphasis on Urdu, it's almost as if Urdu is a third world country language that has no significance. A good number of kids in my class could not even read Urdu properly, and this was considered "cool".
- Completely insane grading system. Only the final exams matter.
- Teachers don't care about your feelings or self-esteem. If you are stupid, they will let you know that you are stupid. None of that "Everyone is special in their own unique way" stuff.

But then again, all of this makes you ready for what lies ahead, and that is the biggest positive of the Pakistani education system.
