^ Thats how you generate interest, by inviting experts to speak. Hopefully when more and more students get into it, for which they need to spark an interest and basic understanding, they will take the next step of building and dedicating labs/offering courses. Our bright academia that has been educated abroad can guide Pakistan through very well.

I don't know man, I think I would cast less to set up a lab then it take to make a missile.
What morons(leaders) don't understand lab/libraries is what make nation stronger.

Venue: 4th Floor, School of Science and Engineering LUMS.

Time: 03:00 pm

Haris Azher

Mr. Haris Azher has done his Software Engineering from PUCIT and has been involved in Rnd GIS Telecom Project at Palmc hip. He is currently working as GIS consultant in Palmchip and also doing his MS (GIS) from GIS Center of PUCIT.

Abstract:

GIS is an emerging field especially in Pakistan that is the combinatio n of Geography and Information Technology (Computer Science). GIS by d efinition is a collection of computer hardware, software, and geographic data for capturing, storing, manipulating, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically (i.e. mapped) information. For a layman Google Earth is a good starting point for getting to know about GIS. Applications of GIS are in numerous areas e.g. Engineering, CAD, Water , Petrol and Gas Electricity Management. Currently Land Management and Telecom are the two hot areas for GIS in Pakistan. ESRI is the pio neer in GIS field and their flagship products ArcGIS is the most widely used GIS software worldwide.
