Assalam o Alaikum
I want to put my personal worry to Karachite members of GS. I have to study in a university at Karachi ( NUST PNEC ). I want to ask whether students from the districts of North Punjab like Rawalpindi or Lahore are welcomed in Karachi.
Whether there is hatred in the minds and hearts of people of Karachi specially in the younger lot. Is muhajir-punjabi conflict effective in Karachi's educational institutes. One of my friend did not went to Karachi although he had secured admission at IBA Karachi. He told me stories that you will not comfortable in Karachi.
Thanks

If you do not have close relatives in Karachi, it will be risky, very risky. It may be quite safe usually, but, if trouble erupts, it spreads very rapidly.

I donot belong to karachi , but have studied from Karachi (2000-2005).
My College was DCET(Dawood College of Engineering and Technology) a federal College under control of Federal Ministry of Education.
Our College had Quota System , and Major Portion of our College Students were from Punjab(Rural and Urban) both.
Non had any Problem there in karachi.
You are saying that I have to Study in University of Karachi NUST-PNEC.
Brother these are two entirely different institutes.
University of Karachi is Public Sector University under the Control of Sindh Govt and hence Govornor Sindh is her Chancellor so mostly Karachite are in Karachi University , but still it have considerable NO. of Non-Karachi Students.
and among them(Non-Karachite) students again Major portion is Punjabi Students(those who have settled in Karachi).
But since You tend to go in NUST-PNEC , which is entirely different institute in Karachi , I have done one Certification course from this institute.
NUST-PNEC (National University of Science and Technology- Pakistan Navey Engineering College).
It is NUST subsidery in Karachi for Mostly Navel Cadets but other people can also get admission there.
Located at Karasz opposite to Muhammad Ali Jinnah Society.
Karachi is known for Racial clashes and conflicts , but these are limited to very few areas which are not in the cenetral Parts of Karachi.
Plus NUST-PNEC have Hostels so you will not have to stay outside.
When you will go to karachi , you will see things by yourself , I hope you will feel no fear over there.

And this is one of the most safest area for Punjabies in Karachi.
Almost 90% of the people are from Punjab and this is perhaps the most rich and beautiful area of Karachi as well (geographically as well as infrastructure wise).
I never remember any killing or riot in this area in my entire life.

That is perhaps the main problem. They have limited hostel accomodation. Hostels are not offered at least for the first year out of four years of BE Program. i.e I will have to live in some private self-arranged accomodation outside the NUST Campus.
In reply to GS Member Iconoclast, I would like to say that I have no relatives at all in Karachi. There is no-one whom I know there except a few family friends. how it becomes risky. Kindly elaborate.

Well although it is a separate issue. I will reply to this.
First of all, please be sure that NUST does not announces any score of the entry test. They announce only merit position. 15000 students participated in the competition test. My merit position was 1209. I was offered PNEC Mechanical Engg in the second list. In the first list I was not selected. I talked to nust HEADQUATERS in H-12 Islamabad.
They told me that I can get Chemical Engineering or Civil Engg OR Computer engg at NUST Islamabad or Rawalpindi Campuses. The merits of Electrical or Mechanical engg are as high as 500-600 at Islamabad. To my great surprise, I was even upgraded to ELECTRICAL at Karachi in third list.
Now i had finally planned to go to Karachi because there I have got the best disciplines. I can stay at Islamabad by joining low discplines like CIVIL OR CHEMICAL. So, I was all happy to go to Karachi. I had very good opinion of Karachi. But when I broke this news to my friends and relatives they asked me if I was a mental case. Then everyone whom I consulted rejected my opinion.
So, I decided to put this matter to Karachites.

Dove it's Karachi not Beirut that you will not be safe. 1000's of students from across country go to those universities and colleges and they do finish their studies. Problem comes when you start interacting with student wings of those Political parties, stay away from them and you will be safe.

Well the test was definitely not very easy and unlike previous years many questions were not FSc based. The English section was totally based on SAT-1 style. English was the toughest section. The vocabulary words were challenging. Comprehension passage was relatively easy. There were 200 questions on the test. 30 on English Language, 30 on Chemistry, 60 on Physics and 80 on Mathematics. On average, the test was somewhat conceptual although it laso contained some factual questions derived from FSc Course-pack.
Well this perhaps had nothing to do with this thread if Bird had not asked for.

I think there are private hostels in the area. You can also become a paying guest as the area around your institute is very post and safe.

If time is not real, then the dividing line between this world and eternity, between suffering and bliss, between good and evil, is also an illusion.
