What do you do when you feel that you are merely a pawn in someone else's game?

Corporate life can be wonderful but it can be a real miserable existence too.

You have to play very strategically if that someone is your boss or manager and remove yourself from that situation.

So much time is wasted in political nonsense but you have to look out for your own. I learned very early on in my corporate career that there are no friends here.

"What's in it for me" is probably the best question to ask yourself. Sounds a bit selfish but I ask myself that questions every 3 months and if I feel like there is nothing than I revaluate and shift gears.

People who reported to you once can become your bosses and vice versa so always choose you words carefully.

my two cents worth..

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

What if there is no way to remove yourself from that situation?

This is not about political/social games. I am talking about corporate policy and encouraging a certain practice and then later denying it.

Perhaps I need to share more specifics.

Yes Muzna, specifics would be helpful.
You can always try and remove yourself. I had been a pawn all spring and summer, and decided to walk away.

Same happening here -- but atleast my higher management knows who is really running the show for them - and thats my wee bit sense of relief !
